About the Opportunity This is an open position with First. Energy Service Co., a subsidiary of First. Energy Corp. The Manager of Transmission Planning reports to the General Manager of Transmission Planning. This position is responsible for managing a group of supervisors and engineers who are responsible for Transmission Planning functions across First.
Energy's transmission and sub-transmission systems. The Transmission Planning group is responsible for transmission planning functions across First. Energy's transmission and subtransmission systems in the First. Energy area. The primary focus is on studying and planning the safe and reliable operation of transmission and subtransmission lines and substations.
In addition, the group is responsible for performing studies related to generation and load interconnections attaching to the system. The engineers will perform transmission planning activities with input from the operating companies, other utilities, generator owners, the Regional Transmission Organization, and Regional Reliability Organizations.
The group has the responsibility to initiate, recommend, and assist in the development of the capital portfolio for reliability related projects. The group also works closely with the Operations Center to provide support during storms, heavy loading periods, and abnormal system events. Important

Responsibilities Include

Energy Continues to seek out and implement ways to support process improvements through best practices and continuous learning Provides direction for the transmission planning function for the specific areas of the FE transmission system. Manages the studies and planning activities required to provide for the reliable operation of the First.
Energy transmission and sub-transmission systems. Ensures generation and load interconnections studies are properly completed and on time. Initiate, recommend, and manage the creation of the TPP portion of our Energizing the Future (EtF) capital budget portfolio. Works with GM, Planning to develop and implement engineering/operational plans that align with the goals, objectives, and strategic direction of the company.
Oversees, monitors, and enforces the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the group to maintain and/or improve work quality. Builds positive working relationships with internal and external customers. Working with various industry groups to meet requirements / obligations that FE has within the industry, and actively promote First.
Energy’s ideas / methods / procedures that the industry should be using as it moves forward. Formal industry groups include NERC, RFC, and PJM. Traveling throughout First. Energy's service territory and to other industry related events as required. Support First. Energy restoration process as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
A Professional Engineer’s (PE) License is preferred or be willing to obtain. Minimum of 7 (seven) years of related work experience is required. Previous experience in Transmission Planning, Transmission Operations, Regulatory/Compliance, Project Management, Operating Company and/or field experience preferred. Previous experience supervising or managing employees preferred.
Proficient (or demonstrated capability to become proficient) in the use of power system analysis software such as PSLF, PSS/E,TARA and other related planning software. Demonstrate familiarity with PJM, RFC and NERC practices, procedures, and requirements in the areas of transmission planning criteria and principles. Demonstrated abilities of effective analytical and reasoning capabilities, refined oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively structure and confidently present information to peers, TPP management and executive leadership of FE.
