CDL Class B Roll-Off Driver Position Summary Foss Recycling Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused CDL Class B Roll-Off Driver to join our team. The CDL Class B Roll-Off Driver is responsible for safely operating a roll-off truck to transport, deliver, and pick up containers and recyclable materials between customer locations and company facilities.
This position requires the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles while following company policies and applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations. The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial driver who is safety-conscious, dependable, and committed to providing professional and timely service.
Essential Responsibilities Safely operate a roll-off truck in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations. Transport, deliver, exchange, and pick up roll-off containers and recyclable materials according to assigned routes and schedules. Safely maneuver the vehicle into customer, loading, unloading, and container placement areas.
Inspect areas before loading, unloading, or placing containers to identify potential hazards and ensure safe operation. Secure and transport loads in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures. Plan and follow assigned routes to promote safe, timely, and efficient service. Complete and maintain required documentation, including invoices, Bills of Lading, delivery records, and other transportation paperwork.
Properly use the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and maintain required driver records. Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Check vehicle fluids, tires, lights, safety equipment, and other required components as part of routine inspections. Promptly report vehicle defects, maintenance concerns, accidents, safety hazards, or other issues to management.
Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle. Communicate professionally and courteously with customers, coworkers, and employees at pickup and delivery locations. Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. Minimum of three (3) years of commercial driving experience required. Roll-off truck experience preferred. Must meet all applicable DOT driver qualification requirements. Ability to safely maneuver a commercial vehicle in varying traffic, customer, yard, and job-site conditions.
Ability to effectively use mirrors and maintain awareness of the vehicle and surrounding environment. Ability to safely operate roll-off equipment and controls. Ability to use an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and maintain required driving records. Strong attention to safety and ability to follow company and DOT procedures.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team. Dependable attendance and punctuality required. Flexibility to work additional days or hours when business needs require.
Must be able to successfully complete company-required pre-employment screening and meet applicable DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to frequently enter and exit the truck cab throughout the assigned route.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, reach, twist, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements as required. Ability to lift and move up to 45 pounds as required to perform essential job duties. Ability to safely climb onto or around equipment when necessary to perform inspections or address load or equipment conditions.
Ability to use hands and arms to operate vehicle controls, roll-off equipment, complete paperwork, and perform inspections. Ability to safely work around commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, containers, and recyclable materials. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Work environment may include exposure to traffic, loud noise, dust, dirt, moving equipment, and other conditions common to transportation and scrap metal recycling operations. Must maintain awareness of surroundings while operating or working around vehicles and equipment. Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
