CDA Paraprofessional (Head Start / VPK)

Position Overview

Monroe County School District Head Start / VPK Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional / Classroom Aide to support the Head Start program at Stanley Switlik School. The ideal candidate will assist the classroom teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children.

This position plays a vital role in supporting school readiness and promoting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young learners.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities aligned with Head Start performance standards. Support children individually and in small groups to reinforce learning concepts. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions.

Assist with classroom preparation, including setting up materials and organizing learning centers. Support children with diverse needs, including those with disabilities or individualized plans. Maintain positive communication with families and staff members. Follow district policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willingness to obtain within required timeframe preferred. Experience working with preschool-aged children strongly preferred. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to pass required background screening.

Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and actively engage with young children throughout the day.
