Overhead Lines Surveyor
Job description
Location: South West | Contract Type: Permanent | Working Pattern: Full-Time | Office & Site Based | Regular Travel Pay / Benefits: Remuneration for this role is benchmarked competitively within our sector. The Opportunity OCU is delivering major power infrastructure projects across the UK, supporting the development and resilience of the electricity network.
As a Surveyor, you'll play a vital role in supporting the successful planning and delivery of projects by carrying out site surveys, gathering accurate data, and identifying constraints, risks, and opportunities before works commence. Working across a range of power infrastructure projects, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cable schemes, you'll collaborate closely with engineering, design, and operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with accurate information from the outset.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented individual who enjoys working both on-site and within a project environment while contributing to the delivery of critical infrastructure projects. Undertake site surveys to collect technical, environmental, and operational information. Produce accurate survey records, reports, sketches, and supporting documentation.
Identify potential project risks, access constraints, and construction challenges during site visits. Work closely with design and engineering teams to provide information required for project development. Support route assessments, site feasibility studies, and pre-construction activities. Liaise with landowners, clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders where required.
Ensure survey activities are completed in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements. Maintain accurate project records and update company systems with survey findings. Assist project teams in planning works and developing practical delivery solutions. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
Essential Previous experience undertaking site surveys within utilities, infrastructure, construction, engineering, or a related environment. Ability to interpret drawings, maps, plans, and technical documentation. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. Full UK driving licence. Desirable Experience within power, utilities, overhead lines, substations, or cable installation projects. Bonus if you have knowledge of utility network construction methods and processes.
It would be great if you have experience using surveying equipment, GPS technology, or digital data capture tools. It would be great if you've worked within DNO, ICP, or Transmission & Distribution environments. Knowledge of CDM Regulations and utility industry safety requirements would be advantageous. At OCU, we believe that meaningful work should come with meaningful support.
That's the principle behind Careers with Purpose, our commitment to ensuring every person at OCU feels supported, developed, and valued, not just in their role today, but throughout their career with us. Alongside the opportunity to work on some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, we offer a benefits package that we are continuing to develop as we grow, and the kind of career acceleration that only comes from being inside a business moving at this pace.
