POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interconnection Engineer is a member of the Project Engineering organization responsible for the technical execution and coordination of grid interconnection activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), solar PV, hybrid renewable, and data center energy infrastructure projects. This role is critical to project feasibility and requires deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes, utility coordination, and grid integration for both generation and large load applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Project Engineering technical lead for grid interconnection requirements on assigned projects.
  • Translate Interconnection Agreement (IA), Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA), utility, ISO/RTO, and transmission-owner requirements into project engineering requirements.Develop interconnection strategies across projects
  • Manage interconnection applications, studies, and agreements
  • Interface with utilities and ISOs/RTOs
  • Track milestones, timelines, and upgrade costs
  • Identify and mitigate interconnection risks
  • Maintain interconnection positions through COD
  • Track technical interconnection issues through resolution.
  • Maintain traceability between study assumptions, equipment selection, final design, commissioning settings, and as-built configuration. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field. - 5+ years of interconnection or power systems experience
  • Deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes and utility tariffs
  • Experience with CAISO a plus
  • Experience with:
  • Large load interconnections (data centers)
  • DER / BTM / hybrid systems applications
  • Strong technical understanding of transmission and distribution systems
  • Proven ability to manage utility and regulatory relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work accurately under time pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical findings in a clear, concise business format.
  • Ability to work effectively across commercial, operational, and financial teams. ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS
