The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facility instrumentation, automation, and control systems that support critical manufacturing operations.

This includes maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, upgrading, and commissioning instrumentation and PLC-based control systems while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and calibration standards.

Key Responsibilities

Control System Maintenance & Troubleshooting Maintain and repair PLCs, FMCS systems, analyzers, sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, and related control equipment. Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance. Diagnose instrumentation, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and control system issues.

Analyze alarms, trends, and system data to identify and prevent failures. Support critical utility systems such as UPW, IWTP, CDA, scrubbers, exhaust systems, and chemical delivery systems. Calibration Program Management Perform calibration, verification, adjustment, and certification of instruments. Manage calibration schedules and compliance requirements.

Maintain calibration standards, equipment, records, and asset databases (e.g., SIMCO). Support audits and ensure traceable calibration documentation. Installation, Testing & Commissioning Install, configure, modify, test, and commission instrumentation and control systems. Conduct loop checks, startup support, functional testing, and acceptance testing.

Review drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and specifications. Verify installations comply with codes, standards, and design requirements. Reliability & Continuous Improvement Support TPM and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) initiatives. Investigate failures and implement permanent corrective actions. Recommend equipment upgrades and modernization of obsolete systems.

Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to improve reliability and efficiency. Safety & Compliance Maintain EHSS training and comply with all safety regulations, including LOTO and permit requirements. Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Promote strong safety and environmental stewardship. Documentation & Procedure Development Maintain accurate maintenance, calibration, inspection, and repair records. Complete work documentation in systems such as Maximo. Develop and update procedures, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation. Support training and knowledge transfer activities.

Technical Development Maintain proficiency with calibration equipment such as Fluke 744, HART communicators, and process calibrators. Stay current on automation, instrumentation, and process control technologies. Mentor and train less experienced technicians. Performance Expectations Successful Candidates for this role: Provide timely and detailed preventative maintenance on highly technical facilities equipment.

Deliver efficient and skilled response to restore equipment to service as soon as possible, in the event of a system failure. Identify and respond according to alarm conditions Provide effective and timely support to resolve equipment issues. Identify and resolve chronic equipment alarm issues. Identify and reduce equipment defects to improve quality and enhance system stability.

Maintain records on testing and calibrations of equipment. Assist with installation, modification, repair and removal of facilities equipment. Provide a high level of service with strong customer focus and build effective relationships with supported teams. Use AI-powered tools daily to improve troubleshooting, diagnostics, documentation, data analysis, and maintenance planning.

Leverage AI to analyze equipment trends, identify failure patterns, support root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions. Use AI-assisted tools to develop procedures, generate technical documentation, summarize maintenance activities, and improve knowledge management. Installs, maintains and repairs facility electrical equipment and systems.

Installs electrical equipment and fixtures including circuit breakers, controllers, switches, motors, meters, conduit, relays, transmission systems and the like. Reads and interprets blueprints, construction drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and follows verbal instructions to plan and layout conduit, install transmission equipment and ensure proper operation of installed electrical equipment and systems.

Troubleshoots electrical malfunctions to isolate and repair electrical problems. Uses a variety of test equipment to determine electrical transmission and operation problems. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to install and repair electrical equipment, fixtures and transmission systems. Apply AI and advanced analytics to improve reliability, calibration management, AI Assistant predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency.
