Transformation Product Owner
Job description
Want to be a force for good? At Aware Super we believe that we do well through doing good. Finding ways to support our communities is part of our DNA and we have a track record of being bold and breaking new ground. We have always believed that we have a responsibility to invest in ways that deliver strong returns for members at the same time as improving our communities, building a more sustainable economy and supporting employment locally and globally.
Aware Super is one of Australia’s largest industry funds providing superannuation, advice and retirement solutions to those who teach, nurse, care, respond and help others in our communities. We offer a truly collaborative workplace that responds to rapid change, without losing sight of what is most important to us: our members.

This isn’t a traditional Product Owner role and the product isn’t a customer-facing platform.
The product is the delivery model itself: how work moves from an idea through design, engineering and delivery to create value for our members. Working closely with our Delivery Lead and Engineering Lead, you’ll look across our current delivery model and challenge how things are done today. Where are we moving too slowly?
Where do hand-offs, reviews or controls create unnecessary friction? How could AI and emerging technology change the way teams work? What should be done by people, technology or AI? And what could our future teams, roles and ways of working look like? You’ll bring a strong product and transformation mindset, engaging with the business, technology teams and senior leaders to understand what's working, what's slowing us down and where the biggest opportunities exist.
You’ll then translate that thinking into a clear vision, roadmap and sequence of work based on value, speed, cost, quality and risk. In this role you will: Own the vision, roadmap and priorities for Aware Super’s future delivery model, identifying where processes, hand-offs, governance and ways of working can be simplified or fundamentally redesigned.
Reimagine delivery through an AI lens, exploring how AI, automation and emerging technology could change how work gets done, including the future roles, skills, teams and decision rights required. Partner closely with Delivery, Engineering and the business to understand what is slowing delivery down and identify opportunities to improve speed, flow, quality, cost and value.
Turn opportunities into action, prioritising and testing new ways of working with early adopters and using feedback and evidence to determine what should be scaled, adapted or stopped. Bring the organisation on the transformation journey, working across Transformation, Technology, Engineering, People and Risk while influencing senior stakeholders and executives on the case for change, priorities and key trade-offs.
How do you exceed our expectations? You will have the following experience: End-to-end ownership of an internal product, platform or operating model, including its vision, outcomes, roadmap, backlog, acceptance and scale, adapt or stop decisions. Evidence of delivering measurable improvements through product-led operating-model or delivery transformation.
Prioritising an engineering backlog where the users were delivery, technology or engineering teams. Translating user problems into problem-framed requirements and testable acceptance criteria. Redesigning how work flows, including removing hand-offs and changing roles, processes or decision rights. Working with risk and control owners to simplify and strengthen controls in a regulated environment.
Strong hands-on product craft, including personally developing problem statements, journey maps, process maps, prototypes, measures and roadmap options. Practical experience using AI, coding or workflow agents in real work. An understanding of the trade-offs between a skill, an agent, an integration, an automated workflow and a human step.
The ability to interpret and challenge evaluation, performance and adoption data. Strong measurement discipline, including establishing baselines, instrumenting outcomes and using evidence to defend product decisions. The confidence to influence without authority, surface uncomfortable trade-offs and recommend when work should stop.
The Aware Super difference At Aware Super, we believe that diversity of thought, background and experience creates better outcomes for our people, members and communities. Our people are focused on creating a diverse and dynamic environment that embraces and values differences and enables our team to bring their whole selves to work.

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia and will be subject to police and bankruptcy checks.
