About the Role

The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the facility. This position ensures that all janitorial duties are performed efficiently to uphold hygiene standards and promote a welcoming atmosphere for employees, visitors, and clients. The Custodian is responsible for the upkeep of floors, restrooms, and common areas, as well as the proper handling and disposal of waste materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, cleaning instructions, and schedules. Experience performing janitorial duties in a commercial or institutional setting. Knowledge of safety rules and proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Physical capability to perform repetitive motions, balance, and lift moderate weights as required.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a large facility or educational environment. Certification in occupational safety or hazardous materials handling. Familiarity with environmentally friendly cleaning products and practices. Basic maintenance or repair skills related to janitorial equipment. Strong communication skills to effectively report issues and coordinate with team members.

Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting floors and surfaces. Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure fixtures are in proper working order. Read and interpret cleaning schedules, safety guidelines, and maintenance instructions to complete tasks accurately.

Handle janitorial equipment and cleaning chemicals safely, adhering to all safety rules and protocols. Balance physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and repetitive motions while maintaining attention to detail. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel promptly. Dispose of trash and recycling materials in accordance with facility policies and environmental regulations.

Skills: The Custodian uses balancing skills daily to safely navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven surfaces while performing cleaning tasks. Reading and interpreting documents such as safety protocols and cleaning schedules ensures that all duties are completed correctly and in compliance with regulations. Knowledge of safety rules is critical to prevent accidents and handle cleaning chemicals responsibly.
