Library Access Services - Shift Lead (Internal Only)

Job Functions:

1. Act as Supervisor on duty after normal business hours.
2. Have knowledge of all library collections and the varying circulation policies of each.
3. Enforce library policies and refer issues to professional library staff as necessary.
4. Responsible for working shifts as assigned or arranging for a substitute.
5. Responsible for helping student assistants arrange coverage for missed shifts after normal business hours or covering those shifts as needed.
6. Enforce completion of tasks assigned by Access Services Supervisors, Access Services Manager, Library Director.
7. Participate in initial and ongoing training on library resources, policies, personnel and procedures.
8. Step in to fulfill all duties of Access Services Student Assistant when necessary. This includes but is not limited to: Access Services Student Shift Lead (Internal Only) a. Staffing the Information Desk as needed. b. Answering directional and basic library-related questions. c. Assisting patrons with locating/retrieving library materials. Refering research questions to the research librarians. d. Responsibility for basic care and upkeep of the library areas. Stacks maintenance including, but not limited to, pulling, shelving, and shifting books, microform, media and bound periodicals. e. Collecting and log statistics
9. Responsible for ensuring the smooth transition to the late night building monitors or contacting a Supervisor to determine appropriate steps as needed.
10. Fill out a daily report of evening activities in order to communicate with daytime supervisors.
11. Knowing the protocol for and managing urgent situations including but not limited to: a. Inclement Weather b. Emergency Situations c. Patron Conflict Scheduled Hours: Shifts Leads will be assigned 1-2 shifts a week between the days of Sunday-Thursday for the hours of 4:30pm-8:00pm. Must be available and willing to work these hours. [Option to work some additional hours as an/at the rate of an Access Services Assistant may still be available]
