Nurse Resident

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION The Nurse Resident position provides an opportunity for a nurse that is a graduate from an accredited institution with an ADN or higher that has either not taken the NCLEX-RN boards or has been licensed for 6 months or less. These employees will work directly with a registered nurse throughout acute care.

Individuals hired into this position must be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam at a future date. Once the NCLEX-RN exam is taken and passed the employee is eligible to apply for open RN positions within the organization. An individual who fails the NCLEX-RN exam will remain in the Nurse Resident program until successful licensure is obtained.

The Nurse Resident utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice and provides direct patient care, with supervision from a registered professional nurse, to patients and families. This is an entry-level nursing position for new graduate and newly licensed nurses from a Board approved ADN nursing program or higher.

Training, evaluation, and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the department. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) Experience: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.

Education

Associates Degree in Nursing. BSN preferred. License, Certification # Registration: BLS required. Other Requirements: Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations. Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.
