About Us
Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community controlled organisation supporting the men who survived the Kinchela Boys Home, and their descendants and families. KBHAC's work addresses the trauma and lasting impacts of institutionalisation, and is grounded in restoration, healing and cultural integrity.
The Kin Connect program sits at the centre of KBHAC's survivor-led support for Stolen Generations Survivors, their descendants and families, coordinating access to health, housing, legal, social and community services and delivering connection, healing, identity and truth-telling activities across the KBH community.
About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Kin Connect Case Worker – Health to join our team. Key duties will include:
- Provide holistic case management and care coordination for KBH Survivors, their families and descendants accessing health services Perform a liaison role between Survivors, families and carers and NSW Health and other government and non-government health providers Provide advocacy, referral and discharge planning support, including for aged care services, guardianship and residential placement matters Apply trauma-informed, person-centred and culturally safe approaches when supporting clients and families Apply an understanding of Aboriginal concepts of social and emotional wellbeing and the connection between health, culture, land, family and community Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, negotiating and liaising with clinicians to advocate for appropriate care Maintain accurate case management documentation and client records in line with best practice and KBHAC policy Support program logistics, workshops and community events in partnership with the Kin Connect team Prepare status updates, reports and discussion papers for internal and external stakeholders as required Travel to support Survivors and their families in their communities as needed Requirements We are seeking a candidate who: Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, in accordance with the genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), as this is an identified position Has experience working with people affected by intergenerational trauma and/or Stolen Generations Survivors and their descendants Has demonstrated clinical skills and knowledge in holistic assessment, case management, advocacy, referral and discharge planning Has demonstrated experience applying trauma-informed, person-centred and culturally led social and emotional wellbeing approaches Has demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with Aboriginal communities, government agencies and service providers Has demonstrated active involvement in the local Aboriginal community Holds a qualification in Aboriginal primary health care or another health-related discipline, or has equivalent experience Holds a current First Aid and CPR certificate Holds, or can obtain, a current Working with Children Check clearance Holds, or can obtain, a current National Police Check Holds a current unrestricted NSW driver's licence Benefits Fixed term, full time (38 hours per week) through to the end of the financial year, with the possibility of extension subject to funding Work within a multidisciplinary team supporting Survivors' health and wellbeing Salary packaging Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Cultural leave To apply, hit 'Apply Now'.
