Job description

Evoke Advisors is the Ultra-High-Net-Worth division of MAI Capital Management, one of the fastest-growing independent wealth management firms in the country. Together, the organizations combine the highly personalized, boutique service model of a sophisticated family office with the scale, resources, technology, and infrastructure of a leading national RIA.

Founded in 1973, MAI has grown into a national wealth management platform with 42 offices, more than 700 employees, and nearly $80 billion in assets under management and advisement . The firm serves accomplished individuals and families, entrepreneurs, executives, athletes, institutions, and multigenerational families with complex financial needs.

Evoke represents MAI's specialized Ultra-High-Net-Worth offering, providing sophisticated clients with integrated investment management, financial and tax planning, family office services, and access to differentiated investment opportunities. The team is known for combining institutional-quality capabilities with highly customized, relationship-driven service.

It is an exciting time to join the organization. MAI continues to expand nationally while investing significantly in its people, infrastructure, technology, and capabilities. For employees, that creates the opportunity to join a growing organization while still working in a highly collaborative environment where individuals have meaningful visibility and impact.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Accountant to join Evoke's finance team in a hands-on accounting operations role. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this position will play an important role in keeping the day-to-day financial operations of the business running smoothly while supporting the Assistant Controller, firm leadership, and colleagues across the organization.

While the title is Accountant, this is not a traditional technical accounting role. The position is much more focused on accounting operations, bookkeeping, billing, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, expense management, reporting, and general financial administration . This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the day-to-day operations of a business, likes owning processes from start to finish, and takes pride in making sure the details are handled accurately and efficiently.

The Accountant will also serve as an important liaison between Evoke and MAI's broader accounting organization, requiring someone who is responsive, organized, comfortable working across teams, and able to provide a high level of internal customer service. This is a hybrid position , providing a combination of in-office collaboration and flexibility to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities in partnership with the Assistant Controller. Oversee daily accounts payable activity, including reviewing, coding, and approving transactions for processing by MAI's centralized accounting team. Process incoming payments, including online check deposits and other cash receipt activity.

Perform detailed review and coding of employee expense reports in Concur. Support the client billing process from beginning to end, including generating invoices, tracking invoice status, maintaining aging reports, and following up on outstanding receivables. Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate supporting documentation within Net.

Suite. Perform monthly reconciliations across multiple bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial activity. Maintain accurate, organized, and complete accounting and bookkeeping records. Prepare recurring internal financial and operational reports for the Assistant Controller, firm leadership, and MAI.

Coordinate regularly with MAI's accounting and finance teams regarding accounts payable, reporting, and other financial matters. Respond promptly to accounting, expense, billing, and payment-related questions from employees, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Compile and organize supporting documentation for the annual audit in coordination with the Assistant Controller and MAI.

Review financial information, identify discrepancies or unusual activity, and help investigate and resolve issues. Analyze financial data and summarize relevant findings for the Assistant Controller and firm leadership. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, and workflows. Provide general accounting and operational support to the Assistant Controller and firm leadership as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, accounting operations, or a similar corporate finance function. Hands-on experience with several core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, journal entries, expense management, cash receipts, or general ledger support.

Experience working within an accounting or ERP system required. Net. Suite experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with experience using another accounting platform and transferable systems knowledge are encouraged to apply. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data. Experience within financial services, wealth management, investment management, or another professional services environment is a plus.

CPA is not required.

What We're Looking For

Exceptionally organized with the ability to manage a high volume of transactions, requests, and recurring deadlines without sacrificing accuracy. Strong attention to detail and a natural instinct for catching inconsistencies or discrepancies. A hands-on, operational mindset — someone who genuinely enjoys keeping things organized and making sure processes run correctly.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues and follow them through to resolution. Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight. Responsive and proactive communicator who understands the importance of follow-through. Strong customer-service mindset when supporting colleagues, leadership, clients, and vendors.

Comfortable collaborating with employees across functions and at all levels of an organization. Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team. Comfortable collaborating in person and through Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other technology. Motivated by finding better, faster, and more efficient ways to manage recurring accounting processes.
