Behavior Intervention Specialist
Job description
Job Summary
BCBA / Behavioral & Family Support Specialist Sunrise Middle School – San Jose, CA Sunrise Middle School is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and highly skilled Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to join our team and support students who face significant behavioral, emotional, academic, and family challenges. We are looking for someone who believes that challenging behavior is often a form of communication — and who is willing to take the time to understand what is happening in a young person’s life, build trusting relationships, and help that student succeed.
This is not a position that simply responds to behavior after something goes wrong. We want someone who will know our highest-need students well, track their progress closely, identify patterns, intervene early, and work alongside teachers, counselors, administrators, families, and outside agencies to help students thrive.
Key Responsibilities
The BCBA / Behavioral & Family Support Specialist will: Identify and closely monitor students with significant behavioral, social-emotional, attendance, and/or academic needs. Develop and maintain individual behavior intervention and support plans. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), when appropriate, and use data to identify triggers, patterns, functions of behavior, and effective interventions.
Track students' behavior, attendance, grades, academic progress, disciplinary incidents, interventions, and social-emotional progress. Meet individually and in small groups with students to help them develop coping skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, conflict-resolution strategies, and positive relationships.
Provide counseling and crisis support within the individual's professional scope and collaborate with school mental health professionals when additional services are needed. Work directly with teachers to develop practical classroom strategies for students with challenging behaviors.
Requirements
/ Qualifications To Apply: Please submit a resume and brief cover letter describing your experience working with students with behavioral and social-emotional needs and why you are interested in joining Sunrise Middle School.
