Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate classroom activities. This role helps ensure a safe, nurturing environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in young children.

Responsibilities

Assist with implementing lesson plans that meet the needs and interests of children Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately to emergencies Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and parent-child events Keep classrooms neat, clean, and organized; support children with cleanup routines Build positive relationships with families, coworkers, and program participants Participate in field trips, special events, and enrichment activities Engage children during story time, outdoor play, arts and crafts, and group activities Qualifications Must be at least 20 years’ old High School Diploma or GED Current CPR and First Aid certification Documentation of physical exam and TB test Ability to pass background checks and meet licensing requirements Strong communication skills and a positive, creative attitude 15 credit hours (per jurisdictional guideline) or 90-hour certificate or CDA Must obtain CDA within 18 months of employment Must have one year teaching experience in a licensed center Working Conditions Ability to sit or stand for extended periods Physically active role; must be able to engage in play and activities Ability to lift at least 35 lbs Must have visual acuity to monitor children’s safety Why Join the YMCA?
