JOB SUMMARY

Full-time, Exempt | In-Person | Holland, MI We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to design, build, and optimize practical packaging equipment and shop-floor solutions across our multi-site environment. Analyze, develop, and improve packaging processes to enhance productivity, ensure quality, and reduce costs. You will collaborate with teams (Design, Maintenance, Sales, etc.)

to implement continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoot technical issues, and support the introduction of new packaging technologies and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Use Solid. Works to design, fabricate, and test practical fixtures, tooling, and equipment modifications to improve production speed and quality. Safely operate shop equipment like CNC machines, lathes, saws, and other tools to prototype solutions and assist with machinery setup. Work side-by-side with maintenance technicians and line operators to troubleshoot mechanical failures, fine-tune machinery, and perform root-cause analysis on active packaging lines.

Analyze process flow, line layout, and machine throughput to reduce waste, eliminate bottlenecks, and ensure ergonomic and safe working conditions. Create clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assist with trial runs for new packaging formats, and train operators on upgraded equipment setups. Partner with Sales and Product Design to build physical samples, refine packaging prototypes, and establish repeatable production methods.

Evaluate and integrate new technologies, automation solutions, and equipment to enhance packaging capabilities and throughput. Proactively monitor production lines and equipment performance, identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost savings. Lead line balancing and practical 5S and lean initiatives directly on the shop floor to improve efficiency and reduce defect rates.

Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, and line balancing to ensure optimal use of resources. Ensure all processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and participate in audits as needed. Train operators on new processes, equipment, and quality standards to maintain operational excellence. Support new product launches and packaging format changes through process trials and validations.

Understand and apply company quality standards to job duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

& SKILLS: Bachelor’s degree in Process, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering with 5+ years of hands-on plant experience; or an Associate degree/Technical Certification with equivalent practical machining and tooling experience. Proven experience using Solid. Works for 3D modeling, fixture design, and drafting. Practical, hands-on experience using CNC machinery, lathes, saws, and standard shop tools.

Strong ability to communicate effectively and build credibility with maintenance and quality technicians, machine operators, and plant leadership. A pragmatic, mechanical aptitude with a preference for troubleshooting issues on the floor rather than from behind a desk.
