Job description

Advanced Stamping/Roll Forming Engineer Leads stamping and roll forming process development for body structure products, from feasibility and DFM through tooling, launch and continuous improvement. Full Time

  • Engineering
  • Minth North America, Inc., Body Structure Technology Center, Wixom, MI, US or Windsor, Ontario, CA
  • FLSA Status: Exempt (U.S. location) Requisition ID: Salary Range: Minth North America is looking for a highly motivated Advanced Stamping/Roll Forming Process Engineer to join our fast-growing Body Structure Technology Center (BTC NA), based in Wixom, MI or Windsor, Ontario. In this position, you will conduct feasibility studies and DFM, optimize product design, and develop and optimize tooling and dies using simulation to manage spring-back and tool compensation. You will specialize in manufacturing processes such as blanking, drawing, punching and bending, with a deep understanding of metallurgy, sheet metal and die design. Your daily duties involve attending customer meetings, tracking technical open issues, managing engineering changes, and creating PFMEAs and other process-related documents. This individual should bring a unique perspective, be open to challenging the status quo, and be willing to learn from mistakes. Ideally, they have had exposure to stamping, roll forming, or welding/joining of steel or aluminum parts in previous roles. Though not a supervisory position, the Advanced Stamping/Roll Forming Process Engineer will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and departments on technical matters for body structure products. This candidate will need to be able to work in a multinational, multicultural global setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct DFM and define stamping/roll forming processes: conduct feasibility studies and DFM, optimize product design, and develop and optimize tooling/dies using simulation tools such as Auto. Form (e.g., managing spring-back). Take the lead on the stamping/roll forming process from start to finish, including planning the process and defining press tonnage, tooling/dies, materials and product parts for cost estimates in the RFQ or development stages.

Provide the cycle time for each process step and ensure poka-yoke features are included in the tooling and process to achieve the quality required by the customer and drawing. Identify all potential process risks and design testing methods to verify that product quality meets industry standards. Relay information and instructions to the manufacturing team and confirm they are executing and delivering results within the approved timelines and budget.

Evaluate and improve stamping/roll forming processes: review and buy off stamping/roll forming presses and tooling. Own and analyze all issues related to the stamping/roll forming line, equipment, tooling and processes, and provide countermeasures and technical support to reach the designed OEE. Evaluate current stamping/roll forming processes by designing and conducting research programs on the current state of manufacturing and studying future manufacturing possibilities, then develop new or upgraded processes that use cutting-edge technology to improve product quality, increase efficiency and reduce cost.

Attend customer meetings, track technical open issues, manage engineering changes, and create PFMEAs and other process-related documents. Maintain and improve professional and technical knowledge of product design, manufacturing and assembly techniques by attending seminars and workshops, reading professional publications, and monitoring competitor techniques and technologies.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive stamping/roll forming process and tooling development, with hands-on experience in press setup and die optimization. Experience in aluminum or steel stamping/roll forming is a must. Ability to use simulation tools such as Auto. Form to reduce physical prototyping and predict material behavior and tool performance (e.

g., managing spring-back). Ability to work with CAD to review data, compare data, cut sections and create manufacturing prints. Experience in one or more processes, such as aluminum extrusion, roll forming, welding (CMT, FSW, laser), riveting or other new processes. Creative, constructive and positive approach to problem-solving.

Excellent communication and influencing skills with technical proficiency. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Legally authorized to work in the country of the work location (United States or Canada). MINIMUM EDUCATION / FIELD OF STUDY Bachelor's degree or above in mechanical engineering, engineering or a manufacturing-related field.

KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE Ability to work in a global environment, coordinating between North America and Minth's international teams. A high level of self-motivation and bias for action. Strong communication, presentation and organization skills. Good interpersonal skills and strong self-learning skills. An innovative mindset and openness to challenging the status quo.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in both an office setting and on the manufacturing floor and at tooling and press sites; time on the floor requires standing and walking and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection and safety footwear. Frequent use of a computer and engineering software, and ability to read drawings, gauges and printed or on-screen data.

Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Occasional domestic or international travel to customer, supplier and plant sites. Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation. WHY WORK FOR MINTH?
