Job description

About Assembly

Assembly (YC S24) is an AI-native HOA management company. We don't sell software to property managers: we are the property manager. We run 100s of homeowner associations across Greater LA and the Bay Area, and our own community managers, finance team, and admin team use what we build every day. If you ship something on Monday, you'll know by Friday whether it actually saved someone time.

What you'll work on

Running an HOA is three jobs at once: property management (homeowner requests, vendors, capital projects, board governance), financial management (AP/AR, budgets, reporting), and compliance. Most of the industry still runs on email, PDFs, and phone calls. Some of the problems on the table:

  • Turning decades of scanned governing documents, minutes, and contracts into answers a board can trust
  • Automating the back office: invoices, reconciliation, vendor bids, homeowner notices
  • Building AI agents that do the legwork for our community managers, so each one can run far more communities without quality slipping
  • Owning features end to end: talking to the people who use them, deciding what to build, shipping it, and checking whether it worked

What "founding" means here

You'll own problems, not tickets, including the unglamorous parts: sitting in on a board meeting, untangling a messy ledger, the data migration nobody wants. You'll help set the engineering bar for everyone who joins after you.

Who we're looking for

  • You've built production software somewhere with real engineering discipline (code review, testing, owning what you ship) and you want far more scope
  • You're product-minded: you care whether a feature got used, not just whether it merged
  • You're genuinely curious and learn fast, including about an industry most people have never thought about
  • You're low-ego: you'd rather get it right than win the argument, and you'll do whatever the problem needs
  • You've built real things with LLMs, and you've built something on your own time just because you wanted it to exist

Hard requirement: show us something you built

Agentic coding can buy time, but it can't buy taste. Be ready to show us evidence of something you built on your own time.

Our stack

TypeScript and Next.js, Python, NoSQL, Docker, and LLM APIs. You don't need to know all of it; we care more about how fast you learn.

The details

  • In person, 5 days a week, at our office in Glendale, CA
  • Full-time, with meaningful equity, medical, dental, and vision, and generous PTO
  • Our process: an intro call, then a 90-minute in-person technical deep dive and whiteboarding session
