26 � $85,857.57 Position Summary The school Speech-Language Pathologist is a communication specialist who works with students in both general and special education who have language disorders, articulation and phonological disorders, fluency disorders such as stuttering, and voice disorders. The SLP screens, evaluates, and provides therapy, and works with teachers and families to support students' communication across the school day.
Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference. Students' IEP speech-language services are scheduled on a set frequency, and evaluations must meet legal timelines.
Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, along with IEP meetings and scheduled professional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Screening and evaluation Screen students at regular intervals and specified grade levels to identify possible speech and language disorders. Provide thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language disorders, and write evaluation reports. Help teachers observe, describe, and refer students with suspected or identified speech and language impairments.
Therapy and IEP services Provide individualized therapy that meets each student's needs and addresses speech and language disorders. Write IEP goals, deliver services as specified in students' IEPs, track progress, and take part in IEP meetings. Keep accurate records and documentation in compliance with IDEA, MUSER, and district requirements [including Maine.
Care billing documentation, as assigned]. Consultation and collaboration Serve as a resource to school staff in developing a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. Work with classroom teachers and other staff to carry therapy into students' daily activities. Families and community Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
Help make appropriate referrals to community agencies and specialists. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises students during therapy. Provides required supervision of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), as assigned and consistent with Maine licensing rules.
Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree in speech-language pathology preferred Certificates, licenses, and registrations License to practice speech-language pathology from the Maine Board of Examiners on Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Appropriate Maine Department of Education certification as a speech-language pathologist ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred Completed criminal history record check (fingerprinting), as required by Maine law Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Language skills Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
Write evaluation reports, IEP documentation, and correspondence. Present information effectively and respond to questions from students, families, staff, and the public. Mathematical and data skills Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Score standardized assessments and interpret standard scores, percentiles, and progress data.
Reasoning ability Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret a wide variety of technical instructions and handle several abstract and concrete variables at once. Other skills and abilities Apply current research and theory to therapy and intervention. Plan and carry out therapy goals based on students' needs and abilities and school objectives.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and the community. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.
Compensation
and Benefits The salary range for this position is $45,518.26 to $85,857.57 annually, with placement on the salary schedule based on education and experience. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform them. Regularly sit; occasionally walk and stand. Continuously hear conversation in quiet and noisy settings, and clearly model speech sounds for students. Bend, kneel, and sit at floor level or in student-sized chairs to work with young students.
Occasionally lift and move up to [25] pounds, such as therapy materials and AAC devices. Use close vision to observe articulation and score assessments accurately. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The SLP works in therapy rooms, classrooms, and meeting spaces, and is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students during sessions.
