• Buffalo, NY, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $32000.00 - $32000.01Salary/year, Building Substitute – Buff/Rocsci School Position Summary Buff/Rocsci School seeks a Building Substitute to cover for absent teachers and staff on a daily basis. The substitute keeps classrooms running smoothly, follows lesson plans, and supports student learning and safety, so that every school day stays on track. Position Details Title: Building Substitute School: Buff/Rocsci School Reports to: Principal (or designee) Employment type: FT + benefits + NYSTRS + PTO Hours: 7:40 am - 3:20 pm Start date:10/12/2026 Key Responsibilities Report to the building each day, check in at the main office, and take assignments for absent staff. Carry out lesson plans and instructions left by the absent teacher, or provide appropriate activities when none are available. Take attendance and submit it as required. Keep a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom, using positive behavior strategies and school expectations. Supervise students in hallways, at lunch, at recess, at arrival, and at dismissal as assigned. Support students with special needs by following their plans and accommodations, with guidance from the classroom teacher or support staff. Follow emergency, safety, and security procedures, including drills. Leave clear notes for the returning teacher on what was taught, student behavior, and any concerns. Report injuries, incidents, and safety or behavior concerns to the office right away. Keep student information confidential. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or a degree preferred [adjust to district and state substitute requirements]. Ability to manage a classroom of elementary-age students and keep a positive learning environment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt quickly to new classrooms and grade levels. Dependability, good attendance, and the ability to arrive on time. Strong communication skills with students, staff, and families. Ability to pass required background checks and fingerprint clearance.

Familiarity with school technology such as Google Classroom, smartboards, and attendance systems. Training in crisis prevention or de-escalation. Flexibility, patience, and a calm manner.

Working Conditions The work takes place in a school setting and involves standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, as well as supervising students indoors and outdoors in all weather. The substitute may be assigned to different grades and classrooms from day to day and may need to help students safely during behavioral incidents.
