Job Summary/Overall Objectives Assists in the safe care of the patient as directed. Assists in maintaining safe and efficient unit operations, utilizing excellent customer service skills. Permitted to change patient from portable O2 to wall O2.. Essential Job Functions Assists in providing direct patient care and supportive functions specific to the population in the Emergency Department including, but not limited to, obtaining vital signs; phlebotomy; specimen collection; splinting; wrapping aces; crutch training; preparation of laceration trays; dressing changes; performing EKG’s; application of cardiac electrodes and patient transport.

Assists the professional nursing staff in the delivery of patient care using approved nursing procedures and appropriate documentation as assigned. Documentation is error-free and completed in a timely manner without using unapproved abbreviations. With appropriate training and under the direction of the nurse, performs blood sugar testing by finger stick, urine dips, POC HCG's, documents and reports results.

Complies with patient identification, safety and comfort standards prior to initiating any patient intervention, including specimen collection and transport. Ensures all appropriate equipment and supplies are available and maintains a neat and organized unit. Appropriately recognizes and reports changes in condition of patients to appropriate nursing staff in a timely manner.

Assuming additional responsibilities as needed for continued department success such as greeter functions, unit secretary functions, etc. Other duties as assigned. Other Requirements : Comprehensive Crisis Management per policy. If no phlebotomy training upon hire, must successfully complete on the job phlebotomy training including a minimum of 100 successful blood draws by completion of the introductory period.

Completion of EKG training within 6 months of hire/transfer. Responsible to safely access, transport, and handle single dose medications to include prescription and non-prescription medications. Responsible to safely access, transport, and handle sharps, such as needles, suture kits, lancets, syringes, etc. Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities] Required Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirements) High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.

Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirements) Completion of Phlebotomy Training Course or equivalent training Previous experience working as a unit secretary/nursing assistant; experience working in an emergency setting.

Experience in Healthcare setting.
