Technical Project Manager

Bloomington, MinnesotaFull-timePosted Oct 23, 2026

Job description

ABOUT BLUE OPS Blue Ops is a professional services firm operating at the intersection of finance, data, technology, and private equity. We partner with middle-market private equity firms, investment banks, and portfolio companies to solve complex business challenges. Across our core practices (Finance & Accounting Operations, Data Analytics, M&A Analytics, Quality of Earnings, and Transformation & Change Consulting), we combine technical expertise with hands-on execution to help clients make confident investment decisions, improve business performance, navigate transactions, and create lasting enterprise value.

Our clients operate in high-stakes environments where accuracy, speed, and execution matter. WHO WORKS AT BLUE OPS: We're not consultants who simply assess problems and deliver recommendations. We're hands-on problem solvers who get into the details, work alongside our clients, and take ownership of delivering tangible outcomes.

We combine the sophistication of a larger consulting firm with the agility, accountability, and personal investment of a specialized team. Our people are curious, collaborative, adaptable, and motivated by solving challenging problems and making a meaningful impact. THE ROLE We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead project delivery within our Data Analytics projects.

At its core, this role is focused on delivering complex, customized data, analytics, and technology solutions for our clients. You'll work alongside Solution Architects, Data Visualization Consultants, and client stakeholders to turn business objectives into actionable project plans, coordinate execution, and ensure projects are delivered successfully.

Our Data Analytics engagements are rarely one-size-fits-all. They incorporate evolving business requirements, technical dependencies, multiple stakeholders, and tight timelines. You'll bring structure and clarity to that complexity, helping teams stay aligned, anticipate challenges, manage scope and budgets, and make informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

You'll be involved early in the engagement, partnering with business development and practice leadership to shape project scope, timelines, resource plans, and delivery expectations. From pre-sale through completion, you'll own the project management process, including planning, coordination, progress tracking, risk management, stakeholder communication, and change control.

Success in this role requires more than maintaining a project plan. We're looking for someone who understands technical delivery well enough to ask the right questions, recognize dependencies, challenge assumptions, and help teams navigate ambiguity. You don't need to be the person building the technical solution, but you do need to understand how technical teams work and what it takes to deliver their work successfully.

Just as importantly, you'll be a trusted partner to our consulting teams and clients. You'll lead through relationships, sound judgment, earned trust, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and bring the right amount of structure without unnecessary process or rigidity. You’ll take a consultative approach and leverage your executive presence to manage conflicts, uncertainty or difference of opinion to build clarity and alignment across team members and stakeholders throughout the engagement.

As one of the first members of our emerging Transformation & Change Consulting capability that serves across our core service offerings, you'll also help shape how we deliver projects across Blue Ops, establishing practical approaches and standards that improve the experience for our clients and consultants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Sales & Project Scoping Partner with Analytics practice leadership and account teams during pre-sales to understand client objectives, define project scope, estimate levels of effort, and support Statement of Work (SOW) development. Translate business and technical requirements into clear deliverables, user stories, acceptance criteria, and actionable work plans.

Project Planning & Kickoff Own definition of the project plan across our 4D methodology (Discovery, Development, Deployment, Delivery), establishing timelines, milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, and deliverables. Lead internal and client project kickoffs, aligning stakeholders on objectives, scope, responsibilities, timelines, and expectations.

Project Execution & Team Coordination Drive day-to-day project execution, coordinating work across solution architects, visualization consultants, strategists, practice leadership and other consultants. Facilitate client status meetings, internal project check-ins, and executive updates to communicate progress, resolve blockers, and maintain alignment.

Proactively identify risks, issues, and dependencies, working with project teams and practice leadership to resolve challenges and keep delivery on track. Financial & Scope Management Manage project budgets, resource allocations, and scope throughout the engagement, tracking hours and task status, budget consumption, and forecasts against SOW commitments.

Identify scope changes and delivery risks early, partner with practice leadership on recommended actions, and lead client conversations regarding budget impacts, change requests, and necessary adjustments. Deployment & Project Closeout Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), deployment readiness, and client handoff to ensure solutions meet agreed-upon requirements and acceptance criteria.

Lead project closeout activities, including confirming deliverables, reviewing project performance, and capturing lessons learned. Delivery Excellence & Continuous Improvement Help establish and refine project management delivery standards that support consistent, effective execution as the Analytics practice and broader Transformation & Change capability grow.

Adapt project management approaches to the needs of each engagement, balancing delivery discipline with the flexibility required for complex, customized technical solutions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Technology, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

5+ years of experience managing complex, client-facing projects, preferably within professional services, consulting, or technology delivery environments. Demonstrated experience leading data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, or digital transformation projects from initial scoping through implementation and delivery.

Strong understanding of technical project lifecycles, including requirements gathering, solution development, testing, deployment, and client handoff. Proven ability to develop and manage project plans, timelines, resource allocations, budgets, and deliverables across multiple workstreams. Experience managing project financials, including tracking actuals against budgets, forecasting resource needs, identifying scope changes, and supporting change orders.

Ability to coordinate technical teams, understand dependencies, anticipate delivery risks, and drive accountability without direct reporting authority. Superior client-facing communication and relationship management skills, with the confidence to lead meetings, present project updates, and navigate difficult conversations or conflicts regarding timelines, budgets, approach and scope.

Experience working with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project management methodologies, with the judgment to adapt approaches based on project needs. Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable operating in fast-paced environments with evolving requirements and competing priorities. Collaborative, hands-on leadership style with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to build trust with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
