About the Role
The Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides patient care for transplant patients following established standards and practices. Functions to advance the clinical mission and goals of the Med. Star Georgetown Transplant Institute through collaborative relationships within the Medical Center. Facilitates the evaluation of both pre- and post-transplant patients by interfacing with referring physicians, Transplant hepatologists, Transplant nephrologists, Transplant surgeons, scheduling coordinators, consultants, insurance coordinators, and social workers. Primary responsibility for the planning implementation and evaluation of this process.
Coordinates evaluation with the patient/family and appropriate members of the hospital, the transplant team, the patient's primary care physician and cardiologist and clinical consultants. Assess patients for placement on the transplant waiting list. Coordinates the complex management and education of patients' pre- and post-transplants.
Communicates with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to maintain an accurate and current patient waiting list. - Registered Nurse
- State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required CPR
- Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required 3-4 years professional nursing experience required previous transplant, hepatology, outpatient or dialysis experience preferred CCTC
