Job description
Postdoctoral fellow in rare disease genetics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine An exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow is available jointly in the research groups of Dr Ernest Turro and Dr Tamas Kozicz in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York.
The postholder will undertake a mix of statistical and experimental work to understand the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders. The research environment in both groups will provide ample opportunities to work on individual and team projects, with excellent publication prospects and opportunities for personal growth.
The postholder will initially be supported by a mix of an R01 grant awarded to Dr Turro by the NIH NHLBI and institutional funding. The candidate must hold a PhD in biomedical science and have strong statistical and programming proficiency with proven expertise in genomic analysis, including the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and statistical approaches in genomics.
Experience working with cellular models of neurodevelopmental disorders is also a pre-requisite, including genetic engineering, cellular reprogramming and differentiation, and phenotyping of neurons or brain organoids. Knowledge of bioinformatics software tools and databases for genetic analyses is a strong advantage.
Experience working on a high-performance computing cluster is essential. The successful candidate will be familiar with commonly used software packages in the biological sciences and will have experience in using and, ideally, developing R or Python bioinformatics packages. The candidate will also have strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work productively as a member of a team.
A personal motivation to understand the biological determinants of rare diseases is desired. Fluency in English is required.
