If this sounds like you, join us and be part of a dynamic and friendly team! We are seeking a reliable, proactive and hands-on Houseman to support the daily operation of our clubhouse.
Reporting to the Facility Operations Manager, this position plays an important role in event setup and breakdown, clubhouse presentation, general maintenance, cleanliness, and day-to-day operational support to both the clubhouse and golf course. This is a physically active position suited to someone who takes pride in their work, notices what needs to be done, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Duties and responsibilities
Set up and reset restaurant spaces and rooms for meetings, weddings, banquets, and other club events, ensuring all items are placed and arranged according to specifications. Move and arrange tables, chairs, furniture, decorations, equipment, and other materials according to event requirements. Complete event breakdowns efficiently, returning furniture, equipment, reusable items, and supplies to their designated storage areas.
Set up, stock, organize, and maintain work areas and service areas throughout the day. Assist with the movement, storage, and organization of club supplies, furniture, equipment, and seasonal items. Support the cleanliness and presentation of the clubhouse, including hallways, public areas, restrooms, windows, indoor spaces, and designated outdoor areas.
Perform general custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and maintaining clean-as-you-go standards. Assist with the handling, movement, and organization of linens and other event or operational supplies as required. Perform minor maintenance and repair tasks, including small painting jobs, basic furniture or equipment repairs, and other general facility tasks within the scope of the position.
Identify and report maintenance issues, hazards, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate manager. Assist Food & Beverage and other departments when required to ensure smooth operations and a high standard of member and guest service. Interact with members, guests, and colleagues in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
Assist with seasonal projects, special events, and other operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated. Able to work independently and identify tasks that need attention without constant supervision. Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change throughout the day. Previous experience in hospitality, banquet/event setup, facilities, maintenance, or a similar hands-on role is an asset, but not required.
Experience with basic repairs and general maintenance is preferred. Able to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, members, and guests. A positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist other departments when needed. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on club operations and events.
This is an active, hands-on role. Candidates must be able to: Regularly stand and walk for extended periods. Lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs independently Move heavier items with assistance when required. Bend, reach, twist, stoop, and perform repetitive physical tasks. Safely navigate stairs, ladders, ramps, and indoor and outdoor surfaces in varying weather conditions.
Must have a valid BC Driver’s license. Reliable transportation and punctuality are a must. Due to Capilano's location and limited public transit access, candidates should ensure they have a reliable way to arrive for scheduled shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays when required. Transportation to our location is difficult.
Employees need ample time if relying on public transit or their own vehicles.
