Event Captain - Catering Events
Job description
Björk Café & Bistro / Scandinavian Market LLC New York, NY | Part-Time / Event-Based Björk Café & Bistro is looking for a reliable, organized, and hands-on Event Captain to oversee the setup and execution of our catering events. The Event Captain is responsible for making sure everything is prepared, organized, and ready before guests arrive , while leading and directing the event staff throughout service.
Responsibilities
Review the event order, kitchen sheet, timeline, menu, guest count, and special requests before each event. Prepare and print staff checklists, kitchen sheets, food labels, display menus, signage, and other event materials . Assign staff to specific setup, service, and breakdown responsibilities. Lead a pre-event staff briefing and make sure everyone understands their assignments.
Ensure all food, beverages, equipment, serving pieces, and supplies are ready and in the correct location. Make sure beverages are properly chilled, ice is ready, stations are stocked, and coffee/bar/beverage setups are complete . Check that food is properly labeled and displays are set according to the event plan. Coordinate with the kitchen regarding food timing, dietary meals, replenishment, and special requests.
Complete a final walkthrough to ensure the event is fully ready before guests arrive. Monitor staff throughout the event and make sure they are following the checklist, kitchen sheet, and service standards. Coordinate food and beverage replenishment and address issues as they arise. Communicate with the client, venue, kitchen, and management as needed.
Lead and oversee event breakdown, ensuring all equipment and supplies are accounted for.
Qualifications
Previous catering, event, restaurant, or hospitality experience. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Proactive and able to identify what needs to be done without constant direction. Comfortable assigning tasks and managing a small event team. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Schedule & Availability Must be available to work nights and weekends. Part-time/event-based position with a flexible schedule that will vary from week to week depending on the events scheduled . Event dates, times, and locations will vary, so flexibility and availability are essential
