Collier Mosquito Control District is hiring! This is a great opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in communications, public relations, marketing, community outreach, or public service to gain hands-on professional experience. Description As an External Affairs Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to: Support community outreach and educational events Help create social media and communications content Assist with photos, videos, and promotional materials Connect with community organizations and partners Support public education campaigns and special projects\ Learn how communications support the District’s mission and community The District Collier Mosquito Control District covers 730 square miles in Southwest Florida, between the Gulf of America and the Everglades.

We are a team of dedicated professionals working to protect public health through innovative and science-driven mosquito control strategies. As a UAS Intern, you will collaborate with experts in Operations and Research, gaining exposure to a variety of projects.

Requirements

Support community outreach and educational events Help create social media and communications content Assist with photos, videos, and promotional materials Connect with community organizations and partners Support public education campaigns and special projects Learn how communications support the District’s mission and community Highly Desirable Bilingual communication skills, particularly English and Spanish.

Strong creative writing and storytelling skills. Experience developing engaging social media or digital content. Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or video editing. Comfortable speaking with and presenting information to members of the public. Experience supporting community events, educational programs, or outreach initiatives.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with community partners. Interest in environmental education, mosquito control, public health, or local government. Ability to bring creative ideas and a fresh perspective to public outreach and communications. Position Details Hours & Schedule: Wor k 20-40 hours pe r week, Monday through Friday, holidays and weekends as needed Internship Duration: The internship begins January 11th, 2027, and continues through May 4th, 2027 (negotiable depending on student’s schedule), offering participants a comprehensive and hands-on experience designed to build skills, knowledge, and professional growth.

This is an in-person position. Housing stipend available upon demonstrated need and availability. This position requires frequent handling of pesticides and fieldwork in remote areas in the hot and humid environment of Southwest Florida with exposure to biting insects and hazardous wildlife as part of a team.
