TITLE: Long-Term Substitute Kindergarten Teacher (Fall 2026)
- Presumpscot Elementary School POSITION OVERVIEW: Portland Public Schools seeks long-term substitute teacher for a kindergarten class at Presumpscot Elementary School this fall. Under direction of the school principal, substitute plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Approximate dates of coverage are August 24, 2026 to January 25, 2026. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of PPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, PPS policies, and effective instructional practices Understanding of the teaching/learning process Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education Ability to infuse technology into curriculum Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Maine State Teacher Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements ( more info ): 020 (Elementary Teacher, K-6 or K-8) 029 (Early Elementary Teacher, PK-3) Maine State CHRC authorization ( more info ) ** ** if you already have an active teacher certification, you do not need a separate CHRC as this clearance is tied to your teacher certification EMPLOYMENT DETAILS: Assignment: Temporary (approx. dates of coverage = August 24, 2026 to January 25, 2027) Schedule: School Year, Full Time, 1.0 FTE Wage: $36.43 per hour (this is the 25-26 rate, so in 26-27 it will be slightly higher; teacher certification is required for this rate) Benefits: Eligible for benefits as outlined here -- Portland Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
