Sr Business Strategy Specialist, Market Intelligence

The Woodlands, Texas, United StatesSeniorPosted Nov 2, 2026

Job description

Company Overview CB&I delivers integrated storage and asset‑management solutions that help customers operate safely, reliably, and efficiently across the lifecycle of their facilities. Through our two global business units

  • Storage Solutions, the world leader in tanks, terminals, and storage systems, and Asset Solutions, a leading provider of operations, management, wells and decommissioning services - we combine technical excellence with execution capability to extend asset life, optimize performance, and maximize value.

Overview

The Sr Business Strategy Specialist, Market Intelligence is responsible for CB&I’s external view: customers, competitors, capital spending, technologies, and policy, and what that view means for where CB&I competes. This position is an Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Sr Dir Strategy and Market Development and routinely interacts with Business Unit Commercial Leads and Government Relations Contacts.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain a structured database mapping customers, facilities, planned projects, investment timing, competitors and potential partners across priority markets. Record sources, update dates, and project status; reconcile conflicting information and maintain consistent definitions and data quality. Maintain consistent definitions, documented assumptions, and a defined refresh cadence to ensure the fact base remains current and usable by others.

Priority Market Analysis: Assess market size, demand drivers, customer needs, technology shifts, and competitive conditions across priority markets, testing alignment with enterprise strategic priorities, and defining entry or expansion requirements in terms of capability, local presence, partners, and qualifications.

Evaluate geographic and sector opportunities against capability, local presence, customer access, partner and qualification requirements; recommend priorities for the Sr Dir’s review. Flag opportunities early, before a process becomes competitive, and support the pipeline with the evidence needed to decide whether to pursue.

Customer and Competitor Activity: Track customer capital expenditure plans, facility investments and project awards; identify emerging investments and projects early enough to inform commercial positioning. Monitor competitor backlog, capabilities, capacity, partnerships, and strategic moves; assess implications for CB&I’s positioning, win-rates, and capability gaps with Commercial.

Policy and Industry Developments: Monitor policy, regulatory, and industry developments with government relations contacts; assess implications for market access, investment timing and customer demand, and flag material changes. Bridging Market and Commercial Intelligence: Combine field intelligence with external research, reconcile conflicting views and challenge unsupported assumptions; incorporate findings into customer profiles, market assessments and the database.

Leadership Communications and Market Outlook: Produce a monthly leadership brief and market outlook, explaining implications for CB&I rather than simply reporting news. State what changed, why it matters, uncertainties and recommended areas for attention. Prepare first drafts of concise, executive-ready charts, written analyses, and presentations, clearly stating the “so what,” alternatives, tradeoffs, key assumptions, and risks.

Escalate time-sensitive developments between reporting cycles, and state plainly what is known, what is assumed, and what remains uncertain.

Qualifications

A degree in Economics, Data Analytics, Finance, Engineering or a related analytical field. 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in energy services research or strategy, including market intelligence, industry or equity research, strategy consulting, commercial analysis or a comparable analytical role. Demonstrated ability to assess customer investment cycles and competitive activity and translate research into leadership reports.

Familiarity with storage, terminals, LNG, infrastructure or asset lifecycle services is preferred. Experience with market data sources and analysis tools, such as project and company databases, public filings, and data visualization software. Skills and Behaviors Analytical Judgment: Ability to structure ambiguous research questions, assess quantitative and qualitative evidence, challenge assumptions, and distinguish verified facts from estimates, assumptions, and interpretation.

Research and Data Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and research databases, with the ability to organize, validate, and visualize data. Experience with responsibly applied AI-enabled research tools is strongly preferred. Commercial Understanding: Ability to connect customer investment cycles, competitive positioning, policy, and industry trends to CB&I’s market opportunities, entry requirements, and right to win.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to write concise leadership briefs and present actionable insights, supporting evidence, uncertainties, and preliminary recommendations to senior audiences. Judgment and Ownership: Recognize when evidence is sufficient to support a decision and when further validation is needed; investigate gaps and deliver accurate, timely work across competing requests.

Collaborative Approach: Build productive relationships with commercial leads and government relations contacts; combine field perspectives with independent analysis. Integrity and Discretion: Handle confidential information appropriately, respect source and licensing requirements, and maintain traceable, objective analysis.

Cultural Leadership: Promote the company’s values and culture, including a healthy and safe work environment. Market Intelligence Database: Build and maintain a structured database mapping customers, facilities, planned projects, investment timing, competitors and potential partners across priority markets. Record sources, update dates, and project status; reconcile conflicting information and maintain consistent definitions and data quality.
