Job description
The Safety Specialist supports the Branch Safety Manager by independently handling routine safety assignments across designated electrical construction jobsites. The specialist conducts inspections, delivers routine training, works with field supervision to resolve hazards, and follows corrective actions through completion.
This role provides consistent field coverage while bringing complex hazards, serious incidents, and unresolved concerns to the Branch Safety Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and complete routine jobsite inspections and field observations within assigned coverage areas. Document findings, discuss controls with supervision, and verify corrective action completion. Coordinate routine safety support across assigned projects and keep the Branch Safety Manager informed of priorities, changing conditions, and resource needs.
Review pre-task plans and job hazard analyses with field supervision, helping crews identify task-specific hazards and appropriate controls. Deliver new employee orientations, toolbox talks, and routine safety training within the specialist’s qualifications. Identify training gaps and coordinate follow-up. Assist supervision with applying company safety programs and project requirements, including fall prevention, ladder safety, electrical hazard awareness, and equipment safety.
Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, prepare factual documentation, and track corrective actions under the Branch Safety Manager’s direction. Maintain accurate safety records, review assigned inspection and training data, and communicate recurring concerns and improvement opportunities. Participate in project safety meetings and coordinate routine safety matters with field supervision, Site Safety Managers, and customer representatives as assigned.
Support PPE and safety equipment needs, employee engagement, and branch safety initiatives. Provide practical guidance to Safety Technicians and assist with their field development when assigned. Perform other safety-related duties assigned by the Branch Safety Manager.
Education and Experience
Typically two or more years of relevant construction safety experience, or demonstrated equivalent capability gained through a Safety Technician role or related field responsibilities. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or a related field is preferred. Relevant field experience may substitute for a degree.
Demonstrated ability to conduct routine inspections, communicate corrective actions, deliver safety information, and manage follow-up with limited day-to-day direction. Training and Skills: Completed OSHA 30-Hour Construction training. Electrical safety training based on NFPA 70E appropriate to assigned duties, or ability to complete required training within 90 days of hire.
Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Working knowledge of construction safety requirements, company programs, and common electrical construction hazards. Ability to explain safety expectations clearly, address concerns constructively, and build productive relationships with field supervision and employees.
Strong documentation, organization, and prioritization skills, including the ability to support multiple jobsites. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use the company’s safety management system for inspections, training records, and action tracking. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned jobsites.
Working Conditions: Work takes place in branch offices and active construction environments, including outdoor locations and uneven terrain. Duties may involve walking, standing for extended periods, bending, and accessing work areas using stairs or ladders when trained and authorized. Appropriate PPE is required. Occasional handling of safety equipment and supplies may be necessary.
Essential duties
are performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Schedule and Travel: Generally Monday through Friday, with start times and occasional additional hours based on project needs. Regular travel among assigned projects is expected; specific travel and scheduling expectations are established for the branch assignment.
