Why this role matters & what you'll actually do
The Compliance/AML Officer is an independent individual contributor responsible for executing the organization's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) compliance activities, ensuring adherence to applicable financial crime regulations, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Sitting within the Compliance department, the role applies specialized technical expertise across transaction monitoring, suspicious activity investigations, customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), sanctions screening, and AML control monitoring.
The Compliance Officer is responsible for identifying and assessing financial crime risks, investigating unusual transaction patterns and customer activities, and identifying potential compliance gaps or control deficiencies.
Operating with minimal guidance on standard and moderately complex matters, the officer exercises independent judgment, applies established regulatory frameworks and internal procedures, and effectively resolves operational AML-related issues while contributing to the effectiveness of the organization's financial crime prevention framework.
Operating within a centralised Compliance function, the role requires close cooperation and effective collaboration with various internal teams and regional Compliance Officers designated for the Group's licensed entities.
The Compliance Officer supports the consistent application of Group-wide AML standards and controls while taking into consideration jurisdiction-specific regulatory requirements and local compliance obligations.
Through ongoing coordination, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional engagement, the role contributes to the alignment of AML practices across entities, the effective resolution of compliance-related matters, and the continuous improvement of the Group's financial crime prevention framework.
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Criminology, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional certification in AML or Financial Crime Compliance (e.g., ACAMS CAMS, ICA Certificate/Diploma in AML, or CySEC Advanced / equivalent regulatory certification) is strongly preferred.
- Documented participation in continuing professional education regarding international financial crime regulations, sanctions regimes, or AML risk typologies.
- Approximately 5 to 7 years of hands-on operational compliance experience focused on AML/CTF, transaction monitoring, or financial crime investigations.
- Relevant professional background in a regulated online brokerage, CFD/FX trading platform, fintech, digital payments institution, or high-volume financial services company.
- Proven track record of operating independently on standard and moderately complex financial crime reviews with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Strong technical working knowledge of AML, CTF, CDD/EDD principles, Sanctions enforcement frameworks, and international standards (FATF, EU AML Directives, CySEC, FCA, or comparable regulatory environments).
- Practical operational experience with industry-standard AML monitoring tools, screening platforms (e.g., World-Check, Dow Jones, LexisNexis), and back-office CRM/trading management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex payment flows, deposit/withdrawal methods (including credit cards, e-wallets, bank wires, and alternative payment solutions), and corporate ownership structures.
- Strong analytical mindset with rigorous attention to detail and sound investigative curiosity.
- Independent, defensible judgment with the ability to evaluate risk pragmatically within defined risk tolerances.
- High ethical standards and personal integrity, with the confidence to challenge operational decisions or escalate risks objectively when warranted.
- Frequent operational engagement with front-office and operations teams (Onboarding, Payments, Customer Support, Fraud) to guide, clarify requirements, and resolve customer-level compliance blocks.
- Close professional collaboration with regional Compliance Officers and centralized compliance colleagues across Group hubs (including Cyprus, Malaysia, and regional offices) to align operational practices.
- Clear, objective written and verbal communication when presenting investigation summaries, risk findings, and escalated dossiers to the MLRO, Head of Compliance, and internal/external auditors.
