The Assistant Teacher helps create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of preschool-aged children.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Lead Teacher in implementing the NC Pre-K curriculum and daily lesson plans Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive, structured learning environment Help supervise children at all times, including classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions Support children’s social-emotional development and positive behavior guidance strategies Assist with classroom observations, documentation, and child assessments as directed Help prepare and organize learning materials and classroom environments Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with required documentation Support children with personal care routines (toileting, handwashing, meals, rest time) Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines Communicate professionally and respectfully with families and staff Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development Maintain confidentiality of children and families Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain) Physical and Negative TB Screening At least 6 months of relevant experience or educational equivalency ABCMS Background Check clearance Working Conditions Direct interaction with children, with exposure to childhood illnesses Frequent standing, bending, lifting and movement Supervision and participation in outdoor activities year-round Other Duties This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties, responsibilities, or activities.
