POSITION OFFERED: Adjunct Teaching Faculty – Chemistry EMPLOYMENT DATE: Spring 2027 - 01/25/2027 - 05/17/2027 TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Adjunct, Non-renewable JOB DESCRIPTION: Instruct CHEM 101 or CHEM 107 CHEM 101 Course Description: This is a study of the basic principles of chemistry including measurement, atomic structure, bonding, mole concept, stoichiometry, and chemical formulas and equations.
It is intended for students who have not had a chemistry course. Laboratory experiments are hands-on, wet-lab, performed in a traditional chemistry lab under supervision of a chemistry professor. CHEM 107 Course Description: This is a more thorough study of basic principles than CHEM 101. Topics include atoms, molecules, ions, chemical formulas, equations, stoichiometry, gases, electronic structure of atoms, periodic table, bonding, physical properties, phase changes, and thermochemistry.
Laboratory experiments are hands-on, wet-lab, performed in a traditional chemistry lab under supervision of a chemistry professor. Teaching assignments may involve teaching day, evening, online, hybrid, and Hyflex courses. Adjunct instructors will be expected to:
- Provide excellent teaching and instruction
- Create, submit, and follow a syllabus that aligns with the course’s Master Course Syllabus
- Use the Learning Management System to provide course materials to students
- Be available to students through office hours, timely grading, and responsive communication
- Read and abide by the policies listed in the Teaching Manual
- Submit all records by their respective deadline, including progress reports, student concern notices, and grades
- Understand and enact mission and values of TC3, and the equity, diversity, justice and inclusion plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or higher in chemistry is required or a related field. For related degrees, 18 graduate credits in chemistry is required. Demonstrated experience instructing or providing training in multiple synchronous/asynchronous on-line formats, experience hosting Microsoft Teams, Zoom and/or other media platforms and experience managing lab activities is essential.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Instructional experience in a post-secondary setting, preferably at a community college. Prior teaching and work experience with the application of scientific concepts to their field careers is preferred. Experience working in a multicultural setting with a diverse student population, including non-traditional and under-prepared students.
EXPECTED HIRING SALARY RANGE: For Adjunct Faculty, rates are found in the most recent adjunct contract. For each credit, the Spring 2027 entry pay rate is $1,146 - $1,209 dependent upon qualifications. Review of applicants will begin ASAP. NOTE: This is a part-time (Adjunct) faculty position. Adjunct positions are ongoing-recruitment pooled positions.
