Senior Director, Business Development About the Role Metro Supply Chain is seeking a results-driven Senior Director, Business Development to accelerate growth across North America. This is a highly strategic, customer-facing leadership role for a proven sales hunter who thrives on winning new business, building executive relationships, and developing innovative supply chain solutions.
Reporting as a senior member of the commercial team, you will lead complex, consultative sales pursuits from opportunity identification through contract execution. You will originate, design, price, present, and negotiate integrated logistics and transportation solutions that align customer supply chain strategies with Metro Supply Chain's capabilities.
Success in this role will directly contribute to revenue growth, market expansion, and long-term strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development & Growth Drive net-new logo acquisition through a proactive hunter mentality and disciplined business development approach. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities across targeted industries and geographic markets. Identify, pursue, and close high-value opportunities that support Metro's strategic growth objectives.
Executive Relationship Management Engage and influence senior executives and key decision-makers within prospective customer organizations. Lead strategic discussions that uncover customer challenges, opportunities, and long-term supply chain goals. Establish credibility as a trusted advisor throughout the sales process.
Solution Design & Value Creation Develop customized contract logistics, transportation, and supply chain solutions that address customer needs. Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Transportation, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to create compelling and scalable solutions. Translate operational capabilities into commercially attractive customer value propositions.
Commercial Strategy & Negotiation Lead pricing strategy, financial modeling, and proposal development for complex opportunities. Structure, present, and negotiate multi-year agreements that deliver value for both the customer and Metro. Manage end-to-end sales cycles from qualification through contract execution. Market Intelligence & Strategic Insight Monitor market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and industry developments.
Identify emerging opportunities and provide insights that strengthen Metro's market position. Contribute to commercial strategies that support growth in key verticals and regions. Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence Mentor and elevate business development capabilities across the organization. Lead and influence cross-functional pursuit teams without direct reporting authority.
Foster collaboration and alignment across internal stakeholders to deliver successful customer outcomes.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field required. MBA or other advanced degree preferred. Experience Significant and progressive experience in business development, sales leadership, or commercial strategy within: Contract Logistics Transportation Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Supply Chain Solutions Proven success acquiring net-new customers through complex, consultative sales cycles.
Demonstrated experience structuring, pricing, and negotiating large-scale, multi-year commercial agreements. Strong track record of achieving revenue growth and exceeding sales targets. Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, or influencing high-performing sales and cross-functional teams.
