Grounds Crew / Mechanical Technician Department: Grounds / Facilities Reports To: Director of Facilities Employment Status: Full-Time Position Summary The Grounds Crew / Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and attractive grounds throughout the school district while providing mechanical support for district facilities and equipment.

This position performs groundskeeping, equipment operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and mechanical repairs throughout the district. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and assist in resolving mechanical issues involving district buildings, equipment, and grounds.

HVAC experience or training is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns, athletic fields, playgrounds, and landscaped areas. Operate and maintain commercial lawn mowers, tractors, trimmers, blowers, and other grounds equipment. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and assist with resolving mechanical issues throughout district buildings and facilities. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical systems, equipment, tools, and/or small engines.

Assist with HVAC troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs as assigned. Identify mechanical problems and determine when outside service or specialized repairs are needed. Maintain athletic fields and outdoor areas for school activities and events. Perform seasonal duties, including leaf removal, snow and ice removal, and storm cleanup.

Assist with mechanical projects and repairs throughout the district as assigned. Maintain clean, organized, and safe equipment and work areas. Follow district safety procedures and properly use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in groundskeeping, mechanical work, maintenance, agriculture, construction, or a related field. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs. Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred: HVAC experience or training. Small-engine repair experience. Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems in commercial or institutional buildings. Welding, fabrication, electrical, plumbing, or other mechanical experience.

Physical Requirements Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Work may involve extended periods outdoors and exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, chemicals, and machinery. The school district is an equal opportunity employer.
