Laboratory Student Extern

Under direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Charge Tech or Section Supervisor, performs laboratory tests as assigned; processes and performs laboratory testing in sections where successful completion of clinical rotation has occurred; reviews and reports lab results; and performs operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

Under close supervision, performs routine clinical laboratory tests of a repetitive nature and typically limited to one laboratory section. Performs routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests of repetitive nature on patient specimens following appropriate methodologies and established policies and procedures.

Analyzes test results; relays results to physicians and other authorized personnel. Obtains specimens from patients such as blood and transports to laboratory. Maintains compliance with requirements of lab safety, OSHA accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs related duties as required. Required: Education: Currently enrolled in a NCCLS-accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician program and have completed all pre-clinical, core medical laboratory sciences Licensure/Certification: Heart Association BLS CPR certification required #LI-TL1
