Non-Certified Swim Instructor

The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:

• Assist Instructor with swimming lessons in the water in accordance with IWC guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refer students and parents to other programs.

• Maintain attendance and skill accomplishment records for each participant.

• Maintain teaching equipment and conduct routine checks to ensure participant safety. Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report any damaged equipment.

Minimum requirements include:

• Must be at least 15 years of age.

• Ability to demonstrate all skills required to teach participants both in and out of the water.

• Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED or equivalent - prior to starting if hired.

Starting salary is $11.50/hour. This is a part-time position with a schedule that could require work during the workday, at night or on the weekends. This is a non-union classified position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check.
