We are currently seeking a Senior Data Scientist located in the Washington, D.C. area. What you’ll do: The Senior Data Scientist will provide data analytics support to D PAE Maritime M & S, the U.
S. Navy's program office for Surface Ship Modernization and Sustainment.
Responsibilities
Assist with design, development, and validation of advanced statistical and machine learning models supporting Navy operation and business functions Conduct exploratory data analysis on large, complex and often unstructured datasets from multiple Navy information systems Architect robust Qlik Sense data model application utilizing complex Load Scripting and Data Transformation (ETL) to ingest and normalize 5,000+ daily Casualty Reports (CASREPs) from disparate sources into an associative engine Develop variable-driven logic and nested If/Match functions to parse plain-language CASREP severity, mapping text to a quantitative 4-tier RAGB (Red, Amber, Green, Black) status for warfare area visualization Engineer advanced Set Analysis expressions within Master Items to calculate dynamic day-over-day deltas and Casualty Correction (CASCOR) percentages, providing automated trend reporting Implement Qlik Geo.
Analytics and multi-layered Map Objects, leveraging real-time coordinate data to visually cross-reference system casualties with geographic positioning for localized "CASREPs of Interest" analysis Design a dynamic UI/UX interface, enabling senior leadership to perform side-by-side comparisons of ship schedules and maintenance availability across the global fleet Transform narrative reports into structured, filterable dimensions by using Leveraged String Functions and Wildcard Searches within the load script to automate the extraction of ship schedules from unstructured text fields Optimize application performance through efficient Data Modeling techniques (Link Tables/Star Schema), ensuring sub-second response times for complex queries across the US Navy’s numbered fleet datasets Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Strong verbal and written interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills Attend meetings and program reviews, assist with compiling presentations, written materials, and/or electronic communications as required Travel domestically and internationally, provide in-person support at MBC and client sites, and obtain and maintain professional certifications and security clearances as required by MBC and/or MBC’s clients.
