Drivers Education Instructor

Job Summary
The Whitko High School Driver Education Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training to students enrolled in the driver education program. The instructor ensures students understand traffic laws, safe driving practices, and responsible decision-making while operating a motor vehicle.
The goal of the program is to prepare students to become safe, confident, and responsible drivers. Reports To: High School Principal Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide classroom instruction covering traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and safe driving practices. Conduct behind-the-wheel training with students in accordance with state driver education requirements.
Develop and maintain lesson plans aligned with state driver education standards. Ensure all vehicles and safety equipment used in instruction are maintained and operated safely. Evaluate student progress and provide feedback on driving performance and classroom participation. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, driving hours, and course completion.
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress when necessary. Promote safe and responsible driving behaviors. Follow all school district policies and state regulations related to driver education programs. Coordinate scheduling for driving sessions and classroom instruction. Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to school administration.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
Qualifications
Valid IN state teaching license or certification. Valid driver education instructor certification as required by the state. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and driver safety practices. Ability to instruct and supervise students in both classroom and vehicle settings.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and provide clear instructions in stressful situations. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Working Conditions: Combination of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. Requires extended periods of driving and supervising student drivers.
Work may occur during or after the regular school day, evenings, or summer sessions. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods in a vehicle. Ability to react quickly to ensure safety during driving instruction. Terms of Employment: Compensation and contract length determined by district policies and program schedule.
