Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Lewiston Public Schools Job Title Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Department Special Education Reports To Program Director/Director of Special Education Approved By J. Langlais, Superintendent Effective Date 10/02/2026 Status Full-time, salaried Salary Range $82,952 � $101,002 annually Position Summary The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides district-wide behavioral consultation and direct support for ABA-based programs in Lewiston Public Schools.
The BCBA designs individualized, evidence-based behavioral and skill-building interventions and supervises their implementation, supporting students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, ADHD, or significant behavioral challenges. The BCBA works collaboratively with special educators, general educators, ed techs, school psychologists, and administrators to promote student success, build staff capacity, and ensure fidelity of ABA practices across the district.
Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference. Students and staff across the district depend on timely behavioral consultation and crisis support.
Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, along with scheduled IEP meetings and professional development, which may occasionally fall outside the regular school day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Assessment and intervention Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and create data-driven Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs). Design individualized, evidence-based behavioral and skill-building interventions, and supervise their implementation. Develop data collection systems, analyze student data, and adjust interventions based on progress.
Assist with developing and reviewing crisis plans, consistent with Maine DOE Chapter 33 rules on physical restraint and seclusion. Collaboration and consultation Collaborate with IEP teams to develop behavior-related goals, and attend IEP meetings as needed. Provide consultation and support to general and special education classrooms across the district.
Support MTSS and PBIS efforts at the school and district level. Communicate with families about behavior plans and student progress. Staff training and program fidelity Coach and train teachers, ed techs, and support staff in ABA strategies. Monitor ABA-based programs for treatment fidelity, and give staff feedback and follow-up coaching.
Plan and deliver staff professional development on behavioral supports. Professional practice Practice in accordance with the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts and applicable Maine law. Keep accurate, confidential records in compliance with FERPA and district policy. Supervisory Responsibilities The BCBA directs the implementation of behavior plans by teachers, ed techs, and support staff, and provides clinical oversight and coaching.
[The BCBA may also supervise Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) or BCBA candidates completing fieldwork.] The BCBA does not have formal authority to hire, discipline, or evaluate staff unless assigned.

Education
and/or experience Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field Experience with autism and behavioral supports in school settings Familiarity with Maine DOE Chapter 33 (restraint and seclusion) and Chapter 101 (MUSER) preferred Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Certificates, licenses, and registrations Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) [Maine behavior analyst license, if required by state law] Certification in the district's crisis intervention program, such as QBS Safety-Care or TCIS, or willingness to obtain it Completed criminal history record check (fingerprinting), as required by Maine law for school employees Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between schools Language skills Read, analyze, and interpret research, assessment reports, regulations, and legal requirements.
Write clear FBAs, behavior plans, progress reports, and training materials. Present information effectively to staff, administrators, families, and IEP teams. Mathematical and data skills Collect, graph, and analyze behavioral data, and use it to make decisions about interventions. Reasoning ability Solve complex behavioral problems with many variables, and adjust plans based on data.
Stay calm and use sound judgment in crisis situations. Other skills and abilities Strong coaching, training, and collaboration skills with adult learners. Build effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and the community. Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.
Compensation
and Benefits The salary range for this position is $82,952 to $101,002 annually. Placement within the range is based on experience and credentials.

Lift and move up to [50] pounds. Travel between schools throughout the day. Use close, distance, and peripheral vision for reliable observation and data collection. Work takes place in classrooms, offices, and other school settings across the district. The noise level is usually moderate and can be loud. The employee may be exposed to aggressive or unsafe student behavior and must stay calm, follow safety procedures, and use sound judgment.
