JOB SUMMARY

The OR Equipment Technician I, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, will participate as an integral member of the patient care team. The OR Equipment Technician performs multiple support functions directed toward improved efficiencies in the OR and positive patient care outcomes. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS % of time Essential Function (Yes/No ) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 100 YES Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated essential job functions and behaviors. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the functioning of all service specific Entry Level equipment.

Ensures essential equipment and supplies are brought into the OR using appropriate infection control standards. Documents any equipment malfunctions in writing by completing a red tag and by creating an online service ticket. Remove equipment from service and take equipment to the Clinical Engineering office to get serviced.

Responds efficiently and effectively to all Surgeon/Nursing request for supplies and equipment and consults a supervisor if unsure about requests. Transports specimens from the OR to the appropriate laboratory in a timely manner Organizes and maintains equipment rooms. Assists the circulator at the start of cases with positioning and getting the room ready.

Responsible for changing tanks as needed. Responds efficiently and effectively to all surgeon/nursing requests for supplies and equipment and consults a supervisor if unsure about requests. Assists with hanging and maintaining racks of x-ray gowns. Transports Patients to and from the OR 100% (To update total %, enter the amount of time in whole numbers (without the % symbol - e.

g., 15, 20) then highlight the total sum (e.g., 1%) at the bottom of the column and press F9. The total sum should add up to 100 %.) Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures. Assumes accountability for improving quality metrics associated with department/unit and meeting organizational/departmental targets. Work Environment Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways.

Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture. Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility. Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows. Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft. OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other duties as assigned. Mission Bay is a 24/7 location. Weekend shifts are included REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED. Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Basic mathematical skills to quickly and accurately add, subtract, divide, and multiply whole numbers and decimals manually or using a calculator. Ability to work independently with good organizational skills. Ability to think critically and proactively to support the OR team. Ability to prioritize and multi-task to support multiple Surgeons and staff.

Ability to work in a fast-paced complex environment. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Ability to work within a team. Must have manual dexterity to manipulate small equipment including, but not limited to, twisting bulbs, turning dials, changing batteries, and pushing buttons. Must be able to move in confined spaces.

Must be able to repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Must be able to see well and read in dim light. Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description. Willingness to be taught/learn new skills. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION One year of operating room or patient care setting experience. Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS None
