Donald in North America. Mott Mac. Donald is seeking a passionate and driven Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our dynamic NYC or NJ team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the most complex and transformative underground infrastructure projects across North America. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, sustainable, and resilient tunnel solutions.

As an EIT, you’ll be supported through mentorship, technical training, and hands-on project experience to help you grow into a confident and capable professional engineer.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the design and analysis of tunnel structures, shafts, caverns, and underground transit systems Support geotechnical and structural assessments using numerical modeling and design software Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers Participate in site investigations, inspections, and construction support activities Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineers Contribute to sustainability and carbon-conscious design initiatives Engage in internal knowledge-sharing and professional development programs We’re looking for individuals who are curious, collaborative, and committed to making a positive impact through engineering.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering 3+ years of related in engineering consultancy (not including education) in the geotechnical field Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Strong academic foundation in soil and/or rock mechanics, structural analysis, and underground construction Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Plaxis, FLAC, or similar tools Excellent written and verbal communication skills Enthusiasm for working on complex infrastructure projects and learning from industry leaders Preferred Experience: Internship or co-op experience in tunneling, geotechnical, or heavy civil engineering Exposure to tunnel excavation methods such as tunnel boring machines (TBM), NATM / SEM, or cut-and-cover methods Advanced degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering Benefits & Reward At Mott Mac.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills. Our hybrid approach centers on an in-office culture, with most of your time spent collaborating face-to-face and a minimum of three days per week in the office.
