Job Summary
The GM R&D Hub China Cluster takes lead launch and structure the R&D Hub in China. This role will establish and execute the overall strategy for CMA CGM’s innovation efforts in China, working closely with China partners, University Labs and the broader startup ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and deploy the Hub roadmap in alignment with the R&D Group’s strategy. Lead the China R&D Hub as the senior representative of CMA CGM Group, driving the regional innovation agenda and acting as a key spokesperson at major industry conferences, client forums, and public-private partnership events. Actively partner with CMA CGM Ventures’ portfolio companies to facilitate commercial pilots, co-innovation projects, and market-entry support within the Chinese logistics ecosystem.
Proactively grow and deepen CMA CGM’s network across China’s innovation landscape, including top-tier VCs, CVCs, accelerators, incubators, university research labs, and C-level industry leaders. Develop investment theses, market maps and deep dives on specific market opportunities or technology areas with subject matter experts.
Conduct ongoing technology and market watch on emerging trends and innovations. Define, scope, and manage Proofs of Concept (POCs) in collaboration with partners, and monitor POC execution (objectives, timeline, KPIs, deliverables). Deliver timely, data-driven reporting and executive summaries to regional business leaders and global headquarters, ensuring clear visibility on pipeline progress, investment performance, and risk factors.
Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with external partners, ensuring innovation efforts are fully aligned with CMA CGM’s overall commercial and operational objectives. Required Experience & Skills Excellent in English and Mandarin, French is a plus. Must hold bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification with emphasis in IT, finance/ business administration, or economics.
10-15+ years of experience in strategy consulting, innovation consulting, venture building, technology ecosystem development, or corporate transformation. Strong entrepreneurial mindset with experience creating, launching, or scaling new businesses, innovation platforms, incubators, or strategic initiatives. Proven ability to engage and influence senior executives (C-level, shareholders, government stakeholders, universities, startups, technology leaders).
Well-connected within China's technology and innovation ecosystem (major tech companies, startups, venture capital, universities, research institutes). Strong project management and execution capabilities, able to translate concepts into concrete business outcomes. Humble, low-ego leadership style with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
Comfortable operating in an ambiguous "build-from-scratch" environment and creating structure where none exists. Passion for innovation, technology, AI, logistics, supply chain, mobility, energy transition, or industrial transformation. Domain expertise and interest in supply chain (transport & logistics) Experience building deal flow and relationships with entrepreneurs, senior executives, and industry experts International experience or ability to work across international culture.
Personal Attributes: Strong strategic thinking and ability to drive execution in a complex and multicultural environment. Excellent communication and coordination skills across business, technical, and executive layers. Operational rigor in delivery tracking, processes, KPI management, and team oversight. Comfortable with executive communication, including COMEX-level materials and governance routines.
Results-driven with strong analytical skills and a passion for new technologies. Ability to present information in an insightful and structured manner, both written and oral, to articulate objectives and influence outcomes. Entrepreneurial spirit and a strong and effective way of communicating with key stakeholders. Be able to move forward with little guidance and have a bias for action, unafraid to make decisions and comfortable justifying the decisions taken.
Reliability and willingness to assume responsibility for achieving team goals. Able and willing to travel as required.
