About the job

Fast-paced, dynamic, and proactive, YouTube’s Trust & Safety team is dedicated to making YouTube a safe place for users, viewers, and content creators around the world to create, and express themselves. Whether understanding and solving their online content concerns, navigating within global legal frameworks, or writing and enforcing worldwide policy, the Trust & Safety team is on the frontlines of enhancing the YouTube experience, building internet safety, and protecting free speech in our ever-evolving digital world.

Global online platforms like YouTube face a complex balancing act in the digital age: protecting copyright while safeguarding freedom of expression—a challenge further amplified by the rise of Generative AI.

As a Copyright Operations Specialist, you will partner with cross-functional technical and legal teams to address the most dynamic challenges in digital policy and intellectual property. You will design and implement operational strategies for emerging areas such as GenAI, scale complex workflows, and navigate novel legal questions at the forefront of copyright law.

In this role, you will manage high-stakes, ambiguous copyright disputes at the intersection of law, technology, and creativity—ensuring fair, nuanced policy enforcement during critical global moments. Beyond resolving sensitive escalations, you will leverage dispute data and frontline insights to shape YouTube’s long-term rights management strategy, driving systemic process innovations across Trust & Safety. You will also play a pivotal leadership role guiding our rapidly expanding global vendor workforce.

At YouTube, we believe that everyone deserves to have a voice, and that the world is a better place when we listen, share, and build community through our stories. We work together to give everyone the power to share their story, explore what they love, and connect with one another in the process. Working at the intersection of technology and boundless creativity, we move at the speed of culture with a shared goal to show people the world. We explore new ideas, solve real problems, and have fun — and we do it all together.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact across key copyright domain areas, including GenAI content.
  • Drive, review, and continuously improve escalation processes for complex, high-impact legal matters with minimal oversight.
  • Partner across teams on process and policy outreach, maintaining feedback loops with stakeholders to identify friction points and drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify operational gaps and independently implement high-impact solutions beyond standard operating procedures.

Review, manage, and improve escalation processes and other legal matters of high impact, risk, and complexity with limited oversight.
