Automotive Sales Manager - Hyundai Apex
Job description
Lead the team! Develop the talent! Drive the performance! Johnson Hyundai of Apex is looking for an experienced, motivated Automotive Sales Manager to join our leadership team. We're looking for more than someone who can desk a deal. We want a leader who knows how to build a successful sales floor - someone who coaches and develops people, creates accountability, protects the customer experience, and understands the processes and daily activity that ultimately drive results.
If you're an experienced automotive sales professional ready to lead from the front and help a team perform at a higher level, we'd like to meet you.
What You'll Do
As a Sales Manager, you'll play an active role in the day-to-day leadership and performance of the Sales Department. You'll: Lead, coach, motivate, and develop the Sales team to achieve individual and departmental goals. Maintain an active presence on the sales floor and provide real-time coaching and support. Conduct deal reviews and structure transactions that balance customer needs, competitive positioning, and dealership profitability.
Work directly with Sales Consultants throughout the sales process to help move opportunities forward and close business. Monitor sales activity, appointments, leads, follow-up, prospecting, and other key performance indicators. Reinforce consistent use of the dealership's CRM and established sales processes. Review customer opportunities and ensure leads are handled promptly, professionally, and consistently.
Conduct regular one-on-one coaching, performance discussions, and sales meetings. Identify training and development needs and help Sales Consultants strengthen their product knowledge, sales skills, and overall performance. Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention of a high-performing Sales team. Help establish sales goals and maintain accountability for achieving them.
Partner with Finance & Insurance to create an efficient and professional transition from vehicle selection through final delivery. Monitor new and pre-owned inventory and assist with pricing, merchandising, aging, and inventory needs. Maintain awareness of Hyundai programs, incentives, inventory, market conditions, and competitive activity.
Ensure required Hyundai training and certifications are completed. Support exceptional customer satisfaction and assist in resolving concerns when management involvement is needed. Work collaboratively with Service, Parts, Finance, and dealership leadership to support the overall success of the operation. Maintain compliance with Johnson Automotive policies, dealership procedures, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
What We're Looking For
Previous automotive retail sales experience with demonstrated success. Previous automotive sales management, team leadership, or comparable leadership experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of dealership sales operations and the automotive retail sales process. Experience structuring and desking automotive transactions.
Strong coaching, leadership, and performance-management skills. The ability to establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable. Excellent communication, negotiation, and closing skills. Strong understanding of CRM utilization, lead management, follow-up, and prospecting. The ability to interpret sales reports and performance metrics and turn that information into action.
Strong organizational and time-management skills. A customer-focused approach and the ability to resolve concerns professionally. The ability to work effectively with Sales Consultants, Finance, and other dealership departments. Comfort with dealership technology, CRM systems, and manufacturer platforms. High standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
A valid driver's license and driving record acceptable under Company standards. Availability to work a retail automotive schedule, including Saturdays as required. Hyundai experience is a plus, but strong automotive sales leadership, process discipline, and the ability to develop people are what matter most. What Success Looks Like A successful Sales Manager doesn't simply react to the month's numbers - they understand what creates them.
That means consistently: Coaching and developing the Sales team. Driving daily sales activity and accountability. Maintaining strong lead response and follow-up. Improving appointment, showroom, and closing performance. Structuring competitive and profitable transactions. Maintaining accurate and consistent CRM activity.
Building product knowledge and sales-process proficiency across the team. Supporting strong customer satisfaction and repeat and referral business. Managing inventory effectively. Achieving dealership sales, gross, and performance objectives. Developing a professional, motivated, and accountable sales culture. Why Johnson Hyundai of Apex?
