Job Summary
Reporting to Robert E. Levy, Litigation Partner and Summer Associate Program Director, this role is available to rising third-year law students. The Summer Associate must be willing to become admitted to practice law in NJ in the future and will be responsible for conducting legal research and providing legal support to all departments within the firm.
Additionally, the firm seeks to provide Summer Associates with practical legal experience to include attendance at court proceedings, depositions, client meetings, real estate closing and public meetings. Summer Associates will be integrated into a supportive, collegial team and encouraged to balance high-caliber work with a sustainable schedule.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with drafting of documents, including Complaints, Certifications, Declarations, discovery requests, responses, brief points and other pleadings. Legal research of statutes, constitutions, regulations, court opinions; prepare legal memoranda re: same to include findings and analysis.
Attend case management conferences, depositions, client meetings, public meetings, court appearances and participate in all section meetings. Assemble case materials by collecting, organizing, and summarizing information, documents, reports, and evidence. Prepare for trial by preparing trial briefs, exhibits, subpoenas, evidence, and motions.
Maintain calendar by entering and updating requirements, court dates, and meetings. Maintain client confidentiality. Participate in continuing educational opportunities and maintain personal networks. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Education
Currently enrolled in Law school as a rising 3L Legal research skills Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) Time management skills and ability to prioritize Competencies: Client Confidentiality Documentation Skills Excellent Writing Skills Research Skills Verbal Communication Word Processing Terms of Employment: Seasonal employment for eight (8) weeks (Early June
- Early August) Compensation of $30/hour In office work at Little Falls, NJ location Non-exempt, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (one hour lunch) Overtime work may be required from time to time Qualified candidates are encouraged to attach a resume, cover letter, transcript, and brief writing sample (5-10 pages).
