Field Engineer
Job description
Job Summary
The Field Engineer commissions and programs DDC systems by following commissioning procedures and guidelines. Employment at Will: Nothing herein is intended to create a contract of employment or to guarantee employment for a definite duration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Organizes commissioning projects by : accepting projects from project management; analyzing commissioning workload t i m e li n e s ; understanding project r e q u i r e m e n t s , sequence of o p e r a t i o n , programming and system t y p e ; and conferring and collaborating with other members of engineering and programming t e a m .
Directs electrical subcontractors b y : prioritizing areas of completion; answering questions to assure proper i n s t a ll a t i o n ; enforcing proper installation m e t h o d s ; and verifying proper i n s t a ll a t i o n . Completes commissioning projects b y : organizing, prioritizing and scheduling start-up a ss i g n m e n t s ; coordinating with programming for needed modifications and corrections for DC and D i s p l a y s ; organizing turnover to Project Manager for project close- o u t ; and following up on work r e s u l t s .
Communicates project information b y : updating Project Managers and Construction Coordiator as to construction progress; updating any project deadline information; advising as to any changes in schedule or change orders; and logging daily work in a project manual or work d i a r y . Achieves financial objectives by : cooperating with Ops management team in reviewing monthly job labor costs reports as needed; initiating corrective actions as directed Ensures proper system operability by : assisting in an on-site performance verification ("Big Picture Checkout") with the HBT engineer to verify the system is functioning as it was designed.
Maintains industry technical knowledge b y : attending educational w o rk s h o p s ; reviewing industry p u b li c a t i o n s ; reviewing dealer I n t r a n e t s ,, maintaining knowledge on proper electrical and and mechanical installation m e t h o d s ; and reviewing product specifications and catalogs on project m a t e r i a l .
Maintains project documentation b y : updating Gray Book for wiring diagrams and sequence changes; maintaining current DDC program and Displays; maintaining project commissioning sheets; collaborating with Project Managers and Programmers to assure that current documentation is accurately and promptly transmitted from the field.
Contributes to team effort by leading by example, initiating an open and positive attitude; preparing for and attending training m ee t i n g s ; assisting in the training of new e m p l o y ee s ; sharing technical information with a ss o c i a t e s ; and accomplishing related results as needed Completes field level integrations b y : staying abreast of integration platforms.
Proficient with M o d B u s , BACnet, LON, OPC, etc. using such software as Tridium, Fieldserver, etc. while knowledgeable with protocol packages such as Mod. Scan, Wireshark and the like. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of HVAC DDC Control Theory & Applications Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits Strong troubleshooting skills Computer hardware and software skills Ability to work independently and unsupervised Strong communications and interactive skills CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE: AA degree in applied technology (preferred) Equivalent combination of education and experience HVAC and/or Mechanical systems experience Computer programming experience Troubleshooting experience This job description is intended to provide information regarding the essential functions and basic duties of this position.
