We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Safety Engineer for our Private Carriage facilities located in Geismar, Louisiana, and Wichita, Kansas. This position will be located in Geismar, Louisiana. Essential Job Duties Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our productions, as our highest priority.

Support and facilitate employee involvement in safety, health, and security, and emergency response systems. Implement personnel, equipment safety and compliance programs through training, inspecting, exposure monitoring, investigating incidents, compiling records and issuing required reports. Provide appropriate HESS leadership, counsel and coaching on HESS related issues, define requirements, interpret regulations and procedures, and assist in defining acceptable solutions.

Support the development, implementation, and measuring of HESS performance and systems, emergency response and services, procedures, practices, projects, and record keeping for Truck Operations complying with all applicable codes, regulations, standards and acceptable practices (DOT/FMCSA, OSHA, FRA, etc.) Support the safety process systems through leading and participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, plant audits, and other programs as required.

Assist in all HESS audits from Oxy. Chem Corporate and regulatory personnel and represent Oxy. Chem at applicable community and HESS organizations and functions. Conduct transportation audits at other facilities as required. Administer all department compensation claims by initiating and/or participating in discussions with employees, insurance providers, medical service providers, and Corporate Risk Management personnel.

Provide input for supervisory decisions, cost control, and maintain necessary records. Maintain required DOT driver qualification and personnel files, coordinate DOT physical exams, initiate new employee background checks with HR support, audit driver logs and equipment maintenance files for DOT compliance, and conduct new employee safety training for the Private Carriage operations.

Promote, guide, instruct, and interact in all business relationships in a manner that encourages continual improvement in department performance. Participate in Truck Operations process risk programs to determine and mitigate safety risks to employees, contractors, the public, the environment, and company assets. Elements of the programs include participation in process hazard reviews, incident investigations, management of change, and mechanical integrity programs.

Ensure process information is current, accurate, and provides employees with information on process chemicals, technology, equipment, and operating procedures. Provide backup supervision as needed for Private Carriage's Geismar, Louisiana, and Wichita, Kansas operations. Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant's ISO Quality Systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in safety or related curriculum Minimum 4 years’ safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing environment Thorough understanding of DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations as well as Oxy. Chem's HESS policies and procedures Ability to analyze data, comprehend both abstract and concrete concepts, and translate technical information in a manner that can be communicated to non-technical personnel High proficiency in Microsoft applications Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies Must be able to read, write and speak in English Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team Ability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis Additional Desired Qualifications Good working knowledge of SAP Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
