APNT Systems Engineer

Job Description : IS4S is seeking highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, and verification of assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems working on-site in our Auburn, AL or Huntsville, AL location. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of resilient navigation and timing solutions for platforms operating in challenging environments, including environments where GPS/GNSS may be degraded, denied, or unavailable.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the systems engineering lifecycle, from translating operational needs into system requirements to developing test plans, conducting system-level testing, verifying performance, and integrating PNT capabilities onto operational platforms. The ideal candidate has a strong engineering foundation, excellent problem-solving skills, and an interest in navigation, sensors, embedded systems, and resilient system architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, decompose, and manage system and subsystem requirements, including requirements traceability and interface definitions. Support system architecture development, technical analyses, and trade studies to evaluate design alternatives and system performance. Develop and execute test plans and procedures to verify and validate system requirements.

Analyze test data, troubleshoot system deficiencies, and document results and corrective actions. Support hardware and software integration of PNT sensors and subsystems onto operational platforms. Participate in laboratory testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, field trials, and platform-level demonstrations. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including requirements specifications, interface documents, test procedures, and verification reports.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and support system development throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 2–10 years of relevant engineering experience in systems engineering, system integration, test engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience supporting requirements development, technical documentation, system testing, or verification activities. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage technical tasks, document results, and communicate progress in a collaborative engineering environment.

U.S. citizenship per 8 U.S.C. 1324(a)(2)(C) and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), GPS/GNSS, inertial navigation systems (INS), or navigation sensors. Familiarity with assured PNT concepts, including resilience to GPS/GNSS jamming, spoofing, interference, or signal unavailability. Familiarity with military standards and specifications Experience developing and managing requirements using tools such as Jama Connect, Cameo Systems Modeler, or similar systems engineering tools.

Familiarity with systems engineering standards and practices, including requirements traceability, interface control, verification planning, and configuration management. Experience with laboratory integration, hardware-in-the-loop testing, field testing, or platform integration. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering software.

Experience working on defense, aerospace, automotive, or other mission-critical systems.
