Assistant Manager

Position Summary

The Deli Assistant Manager supports the Deli Manager in daily operations, ensuring consistent food quality, proper preparation, merchandising standards, and excellent customer service. This role helps lead the deli team, maintains food‑safety compliance, and ensures the department runs efficiently during all shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Deli Manager with daily deli operations, including prep, cooking, portioning, and product rotation. Maintain strict adherence to food‑safety, sanitation, and temperature‑control standards. Support training, coaching, and development of deli staff to ensure consistent execution of Pete’s procedures. Provide leadership coverage during manager absences, including supervising staff and delegating tasks.

Ensure deli displays, hot case, and grab‑and‑go items are stocked, fresh, and merchandised to Pete’s standards. Monitor inventory levels, assist with ordering, and reduce waste through proper rotation and portion control. Deliver excellent customer service and resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally. Maintain a clean, organized work environment and ensure equipment is used safely and properly.

Uphold attendance, uniform, and performance expectations for all team members. Support completion of daily checklists, logs, and required documentation.

Qualifications

Previous deli, food‑service, or kitchen leadership experience preferred. Strong understanding of food‑safety and sanitation requirements. Ability to lead by example, communicate clearly, and maintain a positive team environment. Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced setting. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
