Staff Software Engineer (GPU Customer Engineering)

About the role
Join Arm's Customer Engineering Team at our GPU Group in Shanghai, China, as a Staff Software Engineer! This role is for an experienced software engineer with strong knowledge of graphics and GPU drivers, a curiosity for deep technical problem‑solving, and a passion for delivering high‑impact products in close collaboration with strategic partners.

Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, maintain Android and Linux kernel-mode graphics drivers for advanced GPU architectures. Work closely with user-space driver teams, platform integrators, silicon partners, and internal architects to ensure robust GPU enablement across Linux, Android, and embedded systems. Work with top consumer electronics companies on their latest and greatest platforms.
Integrate our software into flagship devices to showcase Mali's capabilities. Essential Skills and Experience: Proficient knowledge of Linux kernel and experience developing device drivers. Hands-on experience with DRM, KMS, GEM, IOMMU, DMA, Power, and other Linux kernel subsystems. Proficiency in C programming, debugging tools (GDB, perf, ftrace), and kernel tracing.
Familiarity with the Android operating system, especially the graphics framework (SurfaceFlinger and HWC). Experience in tuning and optimizing memory and power-constrained embedded software. Familiarity with embedded systems, SoC bring-up, or performance tuning. Strong problem-solving and debugging skills. Ability to work directly with customers.
Excellent team-working skills. Proficient oral and written English communication skills. Effective communicator with customers and adaptable to occasional travel. “Preferred” Skills and Experience: Knowledge of Vulkan or OpenGL ES and EGL Khronos APIs. Understanding of the GPU HW pipeline on mobile platforms. A track record of working on successful consumer electronics devices.
Experience in large, multi-site software development projects. Knowledge of the full software life-cycle including specification development, test, and documentation. Experience with Agile software development.
